A method of regulating the growth of plants, including combating unwanted vegetation, comprises applying to the plants, either on seed, the soil or directly on the plants an effective amount of a novel compound of the class having the general structural formula ##STR1## in which one of Q.sub.1, Q.sub.2, Q.sub.3 or Q.sub.4 is N, X is --OH or --O--(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl) and Y is H or X and Y together represent a bond between carbon and nitrogen atoms and R is H or one or two of the following substituents: --Br, --Cl, --F, --I, --CF.sub.3, --CH.sub.3, --NO.sub.2 or --C.tbd.N, or an agriculturally acceptable salt thereof.

Arylthioureido pyridinecarbamino compounds and use as plant growth

A new substance which is useful as a plant growth regulator is 3-imino-2-(1-methyl-3-phenylthioureido)isoindolin-1-one, which may also exist in tautomeric form as 1-(2-cyanobenzoyl)-2-methyl-4-phenylthiosemicarbazide. Formative effects and increased fruit set are obtained by application of the growth regulator to crop plants.

Novel thioureidoiminoisoindolinone and use as plant growth regulator

A novel class of compounds which are useful as plant growth regulators has the general structural formula ##STR1## in which R is H or CH.sub.3, R' is halogen, trifluoromethyl, cyano or C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl or alkoxy and n is zero or an integer from 1 to 2. The compounds are synthesized by reacting a compound of the formula ##STR2## with an isocyanate of the formula ##STR3## under basic conditions in a non-reactive, polar organic solvent.

A new insecticide with systemic activity when applied at the roots of plants is 1-(2,6-dichlorobenzoyl)-3-(5-chloro-2-pyridinyl-N-oxide)urea.

1-(2,6-Dichlorobenzoyl)-3-(5-chloro-2-pyridinyl-N-oxide)urea and use as

1-(2-Dichlorobenzoyl)-3-(4-trifluoromethyl-2-thiazolyl)urea, which may be made by reacting 2-amino-4-trifluoromethylthiazole with 2,6-dichlorobenzoylisocyanate is highly effective as an insecticide against Spodoptera efridania and Epilachna varivestis.
