A diversity antenna for receiving radio frequency (RF) signals includes a horizontally-polarized antenna element coupled to a vertically-polarized antenna element in a fixed orthogonal relationship. The vertically-polarized antenna element is a blade antenna which includes a vertically-oriented printed circuit board (PCB) on which is disposed a pair of conductive strips. The horizontally-polarized antenna element includes two loop antennas which are arranged and conductively coupled in parallel. Each loop antenna includes a horizontally-oriented, disc-shaped PCB on which is disposed a pair of conductive loops. To facilitate the orthogonal coupling between the pair of antenna elements, each disc-shaped PCB includes a central slot dimensioned to receive the vertically-oriented PCB. In operation, the independent signal feeds produced by the first and second antenna elements can be processed to reduce any cross-polarization effects present in either signal feed, thereby providing the diversity antenna with full, omnidirectional signal coverage.

A radio frequency (RF) antenna assembly is mounted on a shielded panel to facilitate the transmission of RF signals therethrough. The RF antenna assembly includes an RF antenna formed from wire which is bent to define first and second antenna elements. The RF antenna is inserted through the panel with the first and second antenna elements disposed on opposite sides thereof. A dome-shaped cap constructed of a compressible elastomeric material is mounted over the first antenna element and lies flush against the outer surface of the panel. A disc-shaped dielectric base receives the distal end of the second antenna element and lies flush against the inner surface of the panel. The RF antenna exerts a spring-like force that resiliently draws the cap and base together. In use, each antenna element transmits RF signals within a designated frequency range to wireless electronic devices located on the same side of the panel.

This invention relates to the detection of bioelectric signals indicative of neuromuscular function. A mapping biosensor array is first used to identify, relative to reliable anatomical landmarks, the optimal myoelectrical detection site for the majority of the population. Then a diagnostic biosensor array is fabricated using this information so that when the diagnostic biosensor array is positioned on an individual using the reliable anatomical landmarks, the detection electrode is automatically positioned over the optimal detection site.

An array of electrodes is constructed to allow the user to easily adjust to the correct size of the patient's head. The array is self-adhesive, pre-gelled and disposable. The array fits easily over the temple and forehead areas where EEG signals can be acquired by specially designed monitors for purposes of monitoring a number of bodily phenomena, including but not limited to, depth of anesthesia, and/or ischemia, and burst suppression. The array is connected to the monitor via a tab connector that is integral to the disposable device. The tab connector is insertible into a reusable connector that is part of a monitoring system.

Electrode array system for measuring electrophysiological signals

The ultrasonic thermometer system of the present invention includes a rod or probe of high temperature, grain-stabilized material that has a magnetostrictive or piezoelectric transducer bonded to one end. The transducer is excited by a transducer driver, creating short, periodic, ultrasonic pulses that travel down the length of the rod in a &ldquo;pulse-echo&rdquo; fashion. Along the length of the rod, circumferential grooves are cut which reflect some of the ultrasonic energy back to the transducer thus creating a reflected or echo signal. Two such reflected signals from two adjacent grooves, or a signal from one groove and a signal from the end of the rod, establish a temperature zone. This is the zone of interest to the user, which would be inserted into the user's process that needs to have the temperature monitored. As the temperature of the zone changes, the transition time of the ultrasonic pulse through the zone also changes, thus providing a measurable indication of average temperature and changes in average temperature of the temperature zone. There may be one or multiple temperature zones on one rod. A processor is also provided to correlate the signals generated by the transducer and reflected by the grooves with template signals to generate a temperature reading.
