Embodiments of the present invention relate to a method and apparatus for supplying a fluid, including but not limited to oxygen and/or medications to a non-human animal in a configuration that does not require a human to hold a component on the animal.

Method and apparatus for portable fluid delivery for animals

An automatic pool level controller that maintains a water level water in a swimming pool to protect the pool both from a low water level and from overflow conditions that disable pool equipment from operating. The controller monitors water level with a plurality of adjustable conducting sensors that connect to a plurality of relays that control a plurality of switches and a solenoid valve to automatically add water to the pool when the water level falls below the desired level, and halt addition of water when the desired level is achieved, automatically turning on a pump to expel water to reduce the water level, and automatically turning a pump off to halt the discharge of water when the water is reduced to the desired level, maintaining the water level sufficient for operating pool equipment. The controller has an immersible sensor board, a submersible pump and runs on household current.

Automatic pool level

An automatic pet door, enclosed within a housing, having a pet door located in between two sensors. The two sensors are positioned on arms that extending perpendicular to the housing. An infrared beam extends between the two sensors. When the beam is interrupted, a signal is sent to a motor located on top of the pet door. The motor is in constant connection with a power supply. A rack and pinion device works in conjunction with the motor. When a pet walks in between the two arms and the beam is broken, the motor causes the rack and pinion device to engage with teeth found on the top portion of the pet door, thus causing the door to open. Once the pet walks through the open door and the beam is once again continuous, the door closes.

In a particle measuring system, a burette is provided to enable the rate of flow to a particle sensor of the particle measuring system to be continuously monitored and controlled. The burette has a central chamber and an outer chamber from which the central chamber can overflow. The central chamber of the burette is connected with the flow sample and the rate of flow through the particle sensor is measured by measuring the rate of displacement of the surface of the liquid sample in the central chamber. The rate of sonic transmission through the sample is measured by reflecting pulses from the surface of the sample at the time the central chamber overflows.

A dual tank water heating system has an exterior tank which surrounds an interior tank. Water in the exterior tank is maintained at a prescribed temperature by heating elements located beneath the outer tank. Water in the interior tank is heated by water in the exterior tank and, when necessary, may be heated by a secondary heating element located beneath the interior tank. Water in the exterior tank may be used for general residential and commercial purposes and water in the interior tank is pumped through radiators for hydronic heating. Under moderate weather conditions, all heat is provided to the radiators through water in the interior tank which has been heated by water in the exterior tank. Under particularly cold circumstances, the secondary heating element is used to boost the heating ability of the system.

In a particle detecting instrument, a sapphire detecting cell is provided with a square flow path. The sapphire cell is assembled from four sapphire pieces which extend throughout the length of the cell. The cell has a central section containing the square flow path with planar exterior walls and cylindrical end sections. The pieces are separated by black gaskets which are sandwiched between the opposed faces of the pieces. The pieces are clamped together by shape memory alloy rings which engage the cell in the cylindrical end sections. Each sapphire piece has a polished planar interior surface defining one of the walls of the square flow path.

A device for replacing a battery in a battery powered apparatus such as a smoke alarm is provided which permits the battery to be replaced from a location remote from the battery connector of the apparatus. The device hereof includes a guide track in the form of an elongated tube and means shiftable therealong for carrying a battery between the battery connector and the portion of the tube proximal to the user. A rod is provided for shifting a carriage preferably located within the tube. The carriage is preferably configured to present the battery to the battery connector with the terminals oriented to engage the battery connector and press the battery into position. On the retrieval stroke, the carriage is configured to pull the battery out of engagement with the battery connector and carry it to the end of the tube proximal to the user where the battery may be pushed through a port in the tube and readily replaced.

Device for replacing battery in smoke alarm

A beam steering mechanism for deflecting a light beam along any selected azimuth and elevational direction. The beam is movable without limitation about a pan axis and through a range of 180 degrees about a tilt axis, by drive motors that are rigidly mounted to a housing and are not bodily moved with the light beam. Movement about the pan axis is effected by rotation of a first mirror mounted in a first rotatable cylinder. Movement about the tilt axis is effected by rotation of a second mirror mounted in a second cylinder that is panned with the first cylinder and is itself mounted for rotation about the tilt axis.

Two-axis beam steering system for use in automated light fixtures

In an air contamination level detector for detecting the degree of contamination of the intake air to an internal combustion engine, a laser beam is directed through the intake air stream and light scattered from particles in the intake air stream are detected by a photodetector to generate a pulse for each particle. Pulses over a given size are used to enable an AND gate to pass high frequency pulses to a counter, which is periodically recycled. The count accumulated in the counter represents the duty cycle of the pulses and the dirtiness of the intake air. When the count in the counter reaches a preselected level, it causes a warning light to be energized to indicate that the intake air has a exceeded a tolerance level.

A beam steering mechanism for deflecting a light beam along any selected azimuth and elevational direction. The beam is movable without limitation about a pan axis and about a tilt axis, by drive motors that are rigidly mounted to a housing and are not bodily moved with the light beam. Movement about the pan axis is effected by rotation of a first mirror mounted in a first rotatable cylinder. Movement about the tilt axis is effected by rotation of a second mirror mounted in a second cylinder that is panned with the first cylinder and is itself mounted for rotation about the tilt axis.

A gas valve for providing a short duration, high volume gas pulse includes an outer chamber having an exhaust gas outlet at its front and an inner chamber which extends along the outer chamber, and terminates, at its forward end, in an opening aligned with the gas outlet of the outer chamber and spaced rearwardly therefrom. Within the inner chamber, a piston is mounted for front-to-rear reciprocal movement, and the length of the piston is selected to be greater than the distance between the valve outlet and inner chamber opening. The piston is provided with an intermediate forwardly-directed, peripheral seat, and the piston's front is dimensioned to close the exhaust gas outlet when the inner chamber is filled with gas at a moderate pressure, which forces the piston forward. The outer chamber can then be filled with a charge of gas at a high pressure. In order to fire the valve, the pressure in the inner chamber is released, whereupon the high pressure acting on the peripheral rim area of the piston urges the piston rearward. When the piston uncovers the valve outlet opening, the full pressure of the outer chamber charge acts on the front of the piston, and the piston is accelerated rapidly rearward, to fully open the exhaust gas outlet. The gas charge of the outer chamber is therefore rapidly discharged. Thereafter, the valve is once more closed by re-pressurizing the inner chamber, and the charge/discharge cycle may be repeated.
