A sun visor for vehicles is formed of a sun visor body constructed of plastic foam which is stiffened by a two section stiffening wire. The sun visor is supported by a mounting housing, located at one corner of the sun visor body. The mounting housing receives a sun visor support shaft. An outer support pin which can be detachably connected to a support member of the vehicle is located longitudinally opposite of the mounting housing. The mounting housing defines a first insertion opening into which is plugged one end of one of the stiffening wires and a second insertion opening which accommodates a leaf spring which bears on the sun visor support shaft. The outer support pin and the mounting housing have additional insertion holes which enable rapid connection of the stiffening wire sections to the outer support pin and to the mounting housing by plugging of the components into one another. The two stiffening wire sections are further utilized to conduct electrical power to a sun visor lamp.

Electrically conductive stiffening wire for a sun visor for vehicles

A sun visor for vehicles is provided at one corner thereof with a mounting housing for connecting the sun visor to a sun visor shaft which is mounted to the vehicle. The mounting housing is embedded in the plastic foam material of the sun visor and is secured to a stiffening wire insert which extends therethrough. A first insertion opening is defined in the mounting housing for receiving the stiffening insert and a second insertion opening is provided for supporting a leaf spring and for receiving the sun visor shaft. The spring bears against the shaft to prevent unwanted rotation of the sun visor about the shaft.

Mounting housing for sun visor for vehicles

A sun visor for automotive vehicles having a flat, generally rectangular, sun-visor body on which is provided in one corner a mounting bracket. The bracket may be formed by plastic injection molding and includes a mounting borehole for receiving one end region of a sun-visor shaft. The bracket supports a U-shaped leaf spring located in the borehole which radially clamps the end region of the sun-visor shaft. The arms of the spring are placed in recesses which are formed in the wall of the mounting borehole. The leaf spring is located within an insertion opening which is defined at one end of the mounting borehole. The insertion opening and the leaf spring located there are enclosed by a closure element.

Bracket for sun visor for automotive vehicles with means for excluding

A sun visor for automotive vehicles with one or more mounting brackets which are formed within the body of the sun visor. The sun visor is a molded foam body rigidified by a reinforcing insert. The mounting brackets for the visor are preferably formed by plastic injection molding, and the visor body is formed by foaming over the insert and the brackets. The mounting brackets each have at least one insertion opening which accommodates a respective mounting shaft or pin for connecting the sun visor to the body of the vehicle. To prevent foaming material from entering into a bracket insertion opening during the production of the sun visor, the mounting brackets are formed with an integral extension surrounding the area of the insertion opening. The integral extension protrudes out of the region of the sun visor body being foamed. After the foaming step in the manufacturing of the sun visor is completed, the integral extension is removed from the mounting bracket. Then the mounting shaft is inserted into the insertion opening. The integral extension can also serve as an anchor for clamping the bracket in place during the foaming of the sun visor body.

The body of a sun visor is reinforced with a generally rectangular wire frame. At one corner of the frame is an injection-molded plastic mounting housing molded on the reinforcing frame and that housing receives the mounting shaft for supporting the visor in a vehicle. The wire frame has separated ends which extend past each other and this region of the frame is disposed in an injection molding cavity in which the mounting housing is to be molded. A U-shaped spring is also placed in the injection molding cavity and its side arms extend past the wire frame. A peg in the mounting housing extending through the spring defines the opening in the molded housing past the spring in which the mounting shaft for the visor is received. With the region of the frame and the spring in place in the injection mold for the mounting housing, moldable plastic is injected into the cavity of the mold and the mounting housing is directly molded to the reinforcing frame and the spring.

Sun visor and method for the manufacture thereof

A sun visor for an automotive vehicle includes a visor body which is reinforced by an insert in the form of a wire bent into an approximately rectangular frame. A brace for stiffening the rectangular frame is disposed in the area surrounded by the frame. The brace is an injection molding including a longitudinal brace extending to and molded on the short arms of the rectangular insert and a plurality of transverse braces extending to and molded on the long arms of the rectangular insert. One surface of the brace carries a frame for receiving a mirror. Various additional frames are provided on the mirror-receiving frame for holding the mirror in place. A visor body support shaft mounting housing is also molded as part of the brace and is injection molded onto the reinforcing insert. The mounting housing has an opening therein for receiving the support shaft for supporting the visor body. An outer mounting shaft is also molded on the brace for being received in a supporting receiver on the vehicle body.
