A locking tack for attaching a bone fixation device to a bone includes (a) an elongated body including a distal portion formed of a weldable material and sized to be received within a bore through a portion of a target bone and a proximal portion which, when the distal portion is in a desired position within a target bone, extends out of the bone; (b) a channel extending longitudinally through the elongated body from a proximal end thereof to a channel distal end within the distal portion of the elongated body; and (c) an engaging feature at a distal end of the channel configured to engage an extraction mechanism so that forces applied to the extraction mechanism are transmitted to the distal end of the elongated body.

Locking system for orthopedic implants

A method comprising: providing at least one first diamond film comprising polycrystalline diamond, e.g., nanocrystalline or ultrananocrystalline diamond, disposed on a substrate, wherein the first diamond film comprises a surface comprising diamond asperities and having a first diamond film thickness, removing asperities from the first diamond film to form a second diamond film having a second diamond film thickness, wherein the second thickness is either substantially the same as the first thickness, or the second thickness is about 100 nm or less thinner than the first diamond film thickness, optionally patterning the second diamond film to expose substrate regions and, optionally, depositing semiconductor material on the exposed substrate regions, and depositing a solid layer on the second diamond film to form a first layered structure. Applications include for example dielectric isolation in the semiconductor industry, as well as surface acoustic wave devices, scanning probe microscope, and atomic force microscope devices.

Controlling diamond film surfaces and layering

A jewelry tool is disclosed for engaging a body jewelry. The jewelry tool comprises a tubular body having an interior chamber. A tubular core extends between a major end and a minor end. The tubular core is made of a deformable polymeric material. The tubular core is positioned within the tubular body. A bead bore defines a bore dimension and traverses into the tubular core from the major end. The bore dimension of the bead bore is less than a bead dimension of a bead for deforming the bead bore relative to the bead upon insertion of said bead into said bead bore for creating a friction couple. The friction couple secures the bead relative to the tubular body and transfers a rotational force from the tubular body to the bead for threadably engaging and disengaging the bead with a shaft.

Jewelry tool

A wire sheath for preventing entanglement of a wire and having a cross section dimension wherein the wire relays an electric current between a first end and a second end. The first end includes an electrical coupler and the second end including an electrical receiver, wherein a wire sheath comprises a cylindrical interwoven sheath defining an interior surface and an exterior surface extending between the first end and the second end. The interior surface defines an interior bore extending between the first end and the second end, wherein the interior bore defines a cylindrical diameter that is greater than the cross section dimension of the wire for positioning the wire through the interior bore of the cylindrical interwoven sheath. First and second terminal rings engage a first end of the cylindrical interwoven sheath and a second of the cylindrical interwoven sheath for permitting displacement of the cylindrical interwoven sheath relative to the wire, respectively. A sheath lock encompasses the cylindrical interwoven sheath and compresses the cylindrical interwoven sheath into the wire for terminating displacement of the cylindrical interwoven sheath relative to the wire.

The commercial demand for higher aggregate data rates has led to DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed) transmissions. Network elements need the capacity in these systems to reconfigure in case of a bit stream failure. The instant invention can bridge communications between other network elements including optical and electrical signal network elements, when a loss of signal detection circuit to substitute a second bit stream for a time delayed original bit stream and a circuit element connected to the loss of signal detection circuit to permit the network elements to reconfigure without activating automatic protect switch mechanisms of a bridged network. The instant invention also teaches a method for ensuring communication of network elements of a bridged network including optical and electrical signal network elements, by detecting a loss of signal in a transmitted bit stream; substituting a second bit stream for a time delayed original bit stream; and allowing network elements to crossconnect to reconfigure optical channels in a manner that will not interfere with network functions.

Bridge terminal output unit

A mining conveyor system that advances into a mine behind a continuous mining device. The mining conveyor system has a plurality of conveyance units connected to each other in a train-like fashion. Each conveyance unit conveys mined material to the next conveyance unit in the train until the mined material exits the mine. Each conveyance unit has a conveyance system powered by a first power source and the locomotion system is powered by a second power source. If either power source fails a switching system is utilized to power the portion(s) of the conveyance systems that lack power.

Power and control system for a mobile conveyor system

A printed circuit board (PCB) sparkgap utilizing one or more surface mount devices (SMDs) wherein the conductive ends and solder fillets of the SMDs form one or more conductive electrodes of the spark gap and the SMDs help absorb electrical and thermal energy during an arc-over.

A fishing rod holder comprising a rod supporting bar; a foregrip cradling means fixedly attached to the forward end of the rod supporting bar; a handle retaining means fixedly attached to the rearward end of the rod supporting bar; and a plurality of rod angle adjustment tabs fixedly attached to the rod support bar, each rod angle adjustment tab being positioned and aligned so that its longitudinal midline downwardly extends from the lower surface of the rod supporting bar, each rod angle adjustment tab being further positioned and aligned so that the angle between its longitudinal midline and the longitudinal midline of the rod supporting bar differs from that of each of the other rod angle adjustment tabs.
