A holding fixture is used to hold single-ended or double-ended lamps within a chemical vapor deposition chamber. The holding fixture includes first and second wire mesh screens for holding lamps that are to be coated within the deposition chamber. A screen support is provided to secure and support each screen within the fixture. Spacers to secure the screens and supports together and provide spacing between such screens and supports. Holes may be cut in the screen to allow portions of the lamps to pass through screen. In addition, a housing may be provided for the holding fixture.

A simple rate equation model shows that by increasing the length of the photochemical reactor and/or by increasing the photon intensity in said reactor, the feedstock utilization of .sup.196 Hg will be increased. Two preferred embodiments of the present invention are described, namely (1) long reactors using long photochemical lamps and vapor filters; and (2) quartz reactors with external UV reflecting films. These embodiments have each been constructed and operated, demonstrating the enhanced utilization process dictated by the mathematical model (also provided).

Process of .sup.196 Hg enrichment

A light mirror and a lamp including a light mirror are disclosed. The light mirror includes a light pervious substrate having a reflecting surface, a metal coating disposed in the reflecting surface, and a dichroic coating disposed on the metal coating. The dichroic coating is designed to reflect essentially all of the visible light spectrum and to transmit infra-red radiation and any unreflected portion of the visible light spectrum. A method for controlling the heat transmission of a cold light mirror is also disclosed.

A transparent element for the uniform heating of a glass substrate includes: a heating member which is located on one surface of a glass substrate, the heating member including a thin, electrically conductive transparent film; and a thin, transparent antireflection coating applied to the surface of the electrically conductive transparent film. A method of forming a transparent heater for glass cells employed in spectroscopy or signal detection experiments includes the steps of coating a glass cell with first a transparent electrically conductive film; and coating the coated glass cell with a transparent antireflection coating. In a preferred embodiment, the conductive first transparent layer includes indium oxide containing approximately nine molar percent tin oxide and the second antireflection layer includes a highly transparent insulating material such as magnesium fluoride, which has a refractive index that is lower than the refractive index of the glass substrate.

Glass transparent heater

A thin-film optical interference filter designed and manufactured to have high transmission of blue light and high reflectance of infrared light. The novel feature of this filter rests in the thin-film layer design at the top and bottom of a quarterwave stack and the manufacturing technique by which this thin-film design is deposited. The thin-film layer design suppresses the so called halfwave holes which occur at wide angles of incidence of the incoming light. This desirable effect is achieved by the proper layer thickness and refractive index control in the manufacturing process.

Wide angle optical filters

A method of prolonging the life of thin film dichroic coated lamp components and of employing inexpensive components has been discovered. This method is the use of a hydrogen getter located in the outer jacket of the lamp, adjacent to the dichroic coating. The getter is preferably located and aligned so as to reach an optimum operating temperature.

The present invention is directed to a sealed beam lamp comprising a lens and a reflector, both of which have been coated with a multiple series of thin, very high temperature resistant alternating dichroic coatings, most preferably TiO.sub.2 and SiO.sub.2. The lamps of the present invention produce brilliantly colored light and may be constructed as compact, high wattage, glass or epoxy sealed fixtures, with numerous possible focussing constuctions.
