Two supports (8 and 9) mounted on parallel axes (10 and 11) respectively comprise two parallel arms (24 and 25) and portions (20 and 21) of a runway. A pay-out reel (26) for the core of the braid is mounted on a carriage (23) which rolls on the runway (20, 21), remaining at the bottom thereof. A mandrel (28) integral with the carriage guides the core-wire of the braid toward a braiding die-plate (3) at which the braid elements unwinding from reels (4-7) borne by the supports converge.

Braiding machine

The inside surface of an extrusion cylinder (1) is divided into an upper surface (2) and a lower surface (3), each in the shape of an arc of a cylinder. The two surfaces intersect so that two screw sections (8, 9), each provided with a helical thread (12, 13), mesh with each other. The two threads are complementary in that the width of one thread (12 ) gradually increases from an entry opening (6) downstream, while the width of the other thread (13) decreases gradually from the upstream end toward the exit opening (7). Owing to separations between the free spaces, the material poured into the extruder through the entry opening is forced to pass once into a working zone in order to reach an exit chamber where the pressure is less than in the entry chamber.

Multi-screw extruder

The drums to be loaded or unloaded are placed on a carriage borne by rollers and comprising telescopic arms. The carriage is guided along an arcuate path by a rigid arm and a pivot pin situated at the end of a bar supported by a base. A motor is provided on the carriage to drive the carriage in the arcuate path.

Drum loading and unloading apparatus

The cylinder of the extruder comprises two parts separated by a heat-insulating gasket. In the wall of the upstream part there are ducts through which a cooling fluid flows. The inside surface of the upstream part is provided with parallel longitudinal grooves or spiralling grooves. The screw is divided into two zones, viz., a feed zone and a plasticizing zone which starts just after the heat-insulating gasket. The plasticizing zone includes an entry channel which gradually decreases in depth downstream and an exit channel which gradually increases in depth downstream. The mass of plastic material leaving the extruder is homogeneous and at a predetermined temperature with high output, as independently as possible of the material used.

Screw extruder for plastics

A vat under vacuum bears in its sidewall a sizing sleeve, the cylindrical downstream portion of which includes annular channels interconnected by distribution channels. Injection ducts leave the bottoms of the annular channels and open out in the inside surface of the sleeve. The interior of the sleeve communicates with the interior of the vat via rows of radial suction ducts. During operation, the injection ducts are supplied with water under pressure which forms a film between the outside of the tubing and the inside surface of the sleeve even when the tubing is pressed against that inside surface owing to the partial vacuum prevailing within the vat.

Sizing device for extruded plastic tubing

The hopper of a screw communicates with a feed chamber situated upstream from the extruder cylinder. The substantially rectangular feed chamber is large enough so that the behavior of a mass of plastic material in its initial state, i.e., in the form of powder or pellets, is affected neither by the side-walls nor by the upper wall nor by the removable bottom of the chamber. Thus, in the case of pellets, the distance between any of those walls and the apex of the screw thread is appreciably greater than the average diameter of the pellets.

Plastics extruder

An improved screw-type extruder intended to increase the output obtainable from a machine of certain dimensions while maintaining a satisfactory quality of the material extruded. This result is obtained by providing in the homogenization zone a thread crossed by a multitude of narrow passages, and in the feed zone means for overfeeding the plasticizing zone. These overfeeding means may, for example, consist in providing in this zone a cylinder grooved longitudinally or spirally or a double-screw section producing a forced pushing of the material toward the plasticizing zone.

Screw-type plastics extruder

A one-screw extruder in which the mechanical thrust function is assigned to a first portion of the screw and of the cylinder, and in which the uniform heating of the material to be extruded is the function of a second portion, thus making it possible for each of the two portions to be specialized and to obtain a better performance of the extruder as a whole.

This invention is a screw-type extruder for plastics comprising a screw in a cylinder providing a feed zone, a plasticizing zone and a homogenization zone. The screw threads in the plasticizing zone are provided with marginal passageways so small as to provide heat exchange between the plastic and the screw, the latter being heated by friction.

A machine for manufacturing cables by stranding individual wires, comprising: a pay-out apparatus having four pay-out reels and fixed supports therefor; a stranding apparatus situated after the pay-out apparatus and comprising a forming die receiving the individual wires; a take-up apparatus having a take-up reel, a support for the take-up reel, and a cable-puller for pulling the cable through the die at a predetermined speed; and further comprising wire-tensioning devices disposed between each of the pay-out reel supports and the die, each of the wire-tensioning devices comprising a guide member for one of the wires, disposed at a fixed location and coaxial with a respective one of the reels, a zone situated before the guide member for non-guided passage of a portion of the wire from the reel to the guide member, a motor for driving each of the pay-out reels at a variable speed of rotation, the speed being sufficient to cause the portion of wire to assume the form of a loop under the effect of centrifugal force, thus tensioning the wire through the centrifugal force, and apparatus independent of the cable-puller for controlling the variable speed of rotation, the speed of rotation being constantly the same for all the pay-out reels.

Machine for manufacturing cables by stranding individual wires

A cable-winding machine resting upon a foundation and having two uprights supporting two drum-supports respectively, a crosspiece connecting the uprights at their ends and a traverse mechanism movable along the crosspiece. Cooperative movement of the uprights and the traverse mechanism keeps the deflection of the cable to be wound at a desired level.

This invention relates to an apparatus for winding a cable or a flexible tube on winding supports mounted on winding-machines, the apparatus comprising at least two winding supports, a guiding and shearing mechanism having at least one exit opening, and driving means, the guiding and shearing mechanism being disposed facing the winding supports, and the driving means being adapted to advance the cable or tube towards the guiding and shearing mechanism.
