A power rake comprises spaced apart front and rear axles and ground engaging wheels mounted on the axles. A housing is supported on the axles for wheeled movement over the ground as well as for generally vertical adjustment relative to the ground. A reel member is carried by the housing parallel to and between the axles for rotation about an axis fixed relative to the housing. A side plate or foot guard is supported on the axles independently of the housing. The foot guard includes a lower edge which is maintained in a closely spaced relationship from the ground regardless of the vertical adjustment of the housing relative to the ground.

Disclosed herein is a turf aerating device including a cylindrical drum rotatably supported from a frame for rolling travel over the surface of the turf to be aerated, a plurality of circumferentially-spaced, core-forming elements or tines mounted on the outer periphery of the drum in laterally-spaced, generally parallel rows, and a plurality of guard members mounted on the frame rearwardly of the drum axis. Each of the guard members extends toward the outer periphery of the drum to a location adjacent one of the rows of tines and has a surface located to travel closely adjacent the turf surface and thereby positively restrain the turf from being pulled upwardly by the tines as they are withdrawn from the turf after penetration. The guard members terminate in a generally straight edge closely spaced from the outer periphery of the drum so as to serve as a scraper from removing debris collecting on the drum.

Disclosed herein is a device for introducing soil treatment liquids into the ground including a plurality of injection tines having a downwardly directed tip portion and connected to a rotatable crankshaft for reciprocative movement between a raised or non-injection position and an injection position wherein the tine portion is located beneath the ground surface. Flow of the treatment liquid to the tines is controlled by a rotary flow distribution valve which is connected directly to a chain drive sprocket mounted on the crankshaft and which is arranged to selectively supply the treatment liquid to the tines only when they are in the injection position. Each tine has a generally spherical tip made from a high aluminum ceramic material and an internal check valve located near the tip for minimizing the amount of residual liquid which can be shaken from the tine while it is in the non-injection position.

Disclosed herein is a soil aerating device including a cylindrical drum having an outer peripheral wall and rotatably mounted on a frame for rolling travel over the surface of the ground or turf to be aerated and a plurality of core-forming elements or tines mounted on the exterior of the peripheral wall for removing plugs or cores of earth and depositing same in the interior of the drum as the drum is rolled over the surface of the ground or turf. A portion of the peripheral wall is formed by a trap door hingedly mounted on the drum and releasably held in the closed position by a pair of latch arms, each including a notch for receiving a respective locking pin on the trap door and carried on a shaft member mounted on the drum for rotation about an axis parallel to the drum axis. A drive member mounted on the frame for rotation about a fixed axis and for axial movement relative to the drum between a retracted position and an extended position to drivingly engage one end of the shaft member is operable for selectively preventing rotation of the drum and for selectively moving the latch arms to an unlatching position to permit opening of the trap door.

Soil aerating device

Disclosed herein is a device adapted for pivotal connection to a vehicle having a wheel and tire assembly, which device reduces the impact transmitted to the vehicle frame during collision of the device with an object. The vehicle, such as a golf car, also disclosed herein, includes a vehicle frame having a front portion and a rear portion, one of which portions includes a pair of laterally spaced channel members. The device includes a bumper having a pair of laterally spaced bracket members with end portions respectively pivotally connected within the vehicle frame channel members. The device further includes yielding means, such as rubber blocks, positioned within the channel members for retaining the bumper in a first position with respect to the vehicle frame during normal vehicle operation, and for affording displacement of the bumper from the first position into the vehicle wheel and tire assembly in response to a collision of the bumper with an object.

Disclosed herein is a soil aerating device including a frame, a hollow cylindrical drum supported from the frame for rotation about a horizontally extending axis and for folling travel along the surface of the ground or turf to be aerated. Fixedly mounted on the exterior of the drum in registry with respective apertures provided in the drum are a plurality of hollow core-forming tines which are arranged to act much like involute gear teeth, while cutting and removing a plug or core from the ground or turf as the drum is rolled over the surface thereof, and to leave a 'rack-like' pattern of holes. Each tine includes a pair of generally V-shaped, opposed side walls having an apex located on or near a radial plane extending radially from the drum axis. At least a part of the leading end portions of the side walls terminates in a sharpened cutting edge segment and the trailing end portions of the side walls are connected by a transverse trailing end wall which cooperates with the side wall cutting edge segments to form a generally U-shaped cutting edge.

Disclosed herein is a canopy for vehicles, such as golf cars, which canopy is adapted for mounting on a plurality of upstanding support posts carried by a vehicle. The canopy includes brackets for mounting thereof on the vehicle support posts, a resilient, perimeter frame supported by the support brackets and having opposed arcuate end sections, which in their free form, lie in a generally horizontally, outwardly bowed relation to each other, and a flexible, water-repellent top mounted on the perimeter frame in a manner so as to distort the end sections upwardly from their free form and cause the end sections, in attempting to return to their free form, to apply multi-directional stresses on the top such that the top assumes a generally upwardly convex shape in cross section.
