Apparatus is provided for measuring the flow of high temperature fluid through a main line. A shunt path diverts a portion of the fluid flowing in the main line. The shunt path is so designed as to thermally isolate a flowmeter positioned in the shunt path from the transfer of heat from the main line. The flowmeter produces an output signal. This signal, and one produced by a temperature sensor in the main line, are applied to a correction circuit which produces an output indicating the actual flow of fluid in the main line.

High temperature mass flowmeter

An adjustable flow divider for a mass flowmeter useful in shunting a portion of a fluid flow from a main supply line. The adjustable flow divider includes a porous tube (32) having a plurality of longitudinally extending projections (34) on the inner surface thereof. An externally threaded screw plug (36) is adjustably positioned within the porous tube forming a seal with the projections and exposing to fluid flow an area of porous material related to the position of the plug within the tube. The plug's position is adjustable from the outlet end of the flow divider while the divider is in use.

Adjustable flow divider for mass flowmeters

A length of conduit is coupled at its ends to a heat sink. A pair of thermocouples are joined to the conduit at spaced points intermediate the ends of the conduit. A closed loop of heat conductive material contacts the conduit midway between the thermocouples. The conductive material is heated, and heat is conducted to the conduit. The thermocouples produce outputs representative of the flow of fluid through the conduit.

Indirectly heated thermal flowmeter

A length of conduit is coupled at its ends to a heat sink. A pair of thermocouples are joined to the conduit at spaced points intermediate the ends of the conduit. A conductive post is connected at one of its ends to the heat sink and its other end is joined to a location on the conduit, midway between the thermocouples, by conductive material having a higher electrical resistance than both of the joined elements. A coil arrangement is associated with the post and is energized to cause heating current to pass through the post, the high resistance conductive material and the conduit. The heat generated by the flow of heating current is concentrated at the midpoint between the thermocouples. The thermocouples produce outputs representative of the flow of fluid through the conduit.
