An integrated inventory control and security system for multiple types of articles which are for sale within retail premises to account for entry of articles into retail premises and removal (both authorized removal and attempted unauthorized removal) of articles from retail premises, including a method of documenting events which disclose attempted unauthorized removal of articles.

System and method for disclosing unauthorized removal of articles from secured premises

A system and method for securing premises by distinguishing between authorized and unauthorized removal of articles from the premises via an approach within the premises to an exit door (). Each article is secured by a passive security device () which in an article-securing state will be detected upon the article entering the approach and in a non-securing state will not be wirelessly detected upon the article entering the approach. A detector (), having a detection transmitter and a receiver, wirelessly detects attempted unauthorized removal of a secured article. A register () registers authorized removal of a secured article. An unsecuring transmitter () is controlled by the register to wirelessly transmit to a passive security device of a secured article whose authorized removal has been registered in the register, an unsecuring signal which unsecures the secured article by changing the passive security device from the article-securing state to the non-securing state.

An electromagnetic propulsion system based on an extremely low frequency (elf) radiating antenna structure driven by a matched high current pulsed power supply is described. The elf antenna structure resembles a modified three dimensional multiple-turn loop antenna whose geometry is optimized for the production of reaction thrust rather than the radiation of electromagnetic energy into space. The antenna structure is current driven rather than voltage drive. Rigid three dimensional geometric asymmetry, made up of flat electrical conductors that form a partially closed volume in the loop antenna structure, trap magnetic flux thereby causing a magnetic field density gradient along a single axis. This magnetic field density gradient then causes an imbalance in the magneto- mechanical forces that normally result from the interactions of the loop antenna's internal magnetic field with the current in the conductors of the loop antenna structure, as described by the Lorentz Force Law. The pulsed power supply is designed to provide the proper waveform to the antenna structure at an impedance matching the load impedance of the antenna. The rise time and shape of the input current waveform is crucial to maximizing the production of reaction thrust. Input voltage is at a nominal value sufficient to allow the desired high input current.

Nonlinear electromagnetic propulsion system and method

A color grading scale comprises a plurality of individual cast resin chips, each representative of a single color, with the chips attached one to another to form a continuous array of color chips. In a preferred form, the chips are incorporated into a linear slide which fits within a groove formed in a surface of a frame. The frame is formed of a plastic material having a bright white color for maximum white light reflection. Formed in the frame adjacent to and spaced from the groove is at least one shallow pocket having a depth substantially the same as the groove for receiving a gemstone to be color graded by comparison to the color chips of the slide. Plural pockets of different sizes may be provided to accommodate different size stones.

Method and apparatus for simplifying and improving consistency of color

A baffle for protecting a bottom bearing assembly used as a stabilizer for an agitator shaft operating in a tank-like vessel containing a liquid hostile to bearing components. The baffle defines a pressurized gaseous chamber for isolating the bearing from the liquid in the vessel. Gas under pressure delivered to and maintained in the chamber prevents invasive entry of liquid from the vessel. The apparatus includes an open top bearing-encircling casing which is sealed at its lower end to a bottom wall of the vessel. A pipe in the form of an inverted bucket coaxial with and sleeved over to overlap and encircle an open top of the casing is open at its lower end and is sealed at its upper end to the agitator shaft for rotation therewith. Spaced radially outwardly of an outer wall of the casing, the pipe defines with the casing a restricted annular channel. A conduit connected through the bottom wall of the vessel delivers a supply of gas, under pressure, to fill the casing, the over-sleeved pipe, and the intermediate channel, thus preventing liquid from the vessel from reaching the bearing. Excess gas is slowly discharged at the open lower end of the restricted channel.

A novel cleaning assembly for a dryer feed chute comprises a shaft, a housing in which said shaft is rotatably mounted, a carriage for carrying the housing and the shaft member, drive mechanism for rotating the shaft, and an oscillating chain for moving the housing and hence the shaft in the longitudinal direction. The oscillating mechanism includes control structure for providing longitudinal movement of the housing and the shaft from a first position to a second position and thereafter back to the first position to complete a cycle.

Cleaning assembly for a dryer feed chute

A system for beaming solar energy from space to an earth location and putting it to useful work either as heat or light energy, or by converting it into some other form of energy such as steam or electrical power. In the system illustrated, a receiver satellite is in polar orbit and a relay satellite is in equatorial orbit, rotating with the earth and therefore stationary with respect to earth location. Solar energy is collected by the receiver satellite through an array of parabolic collectors and focused by a series of mirrors onto a coherent radiation energy generator, preferably a laser beam generator. The laser beam is directed by a mirror to another mirror on the relay satellite which redirects it to a selected earth location. Alternatively, the relay satellite may convert the laser beam to a maser beam to better penetrate clouds, smoke and haze at the earth location. The mirrors on the two satellites are mounted on gimbals and are power-operated under continuous automatic telemetry control between the satellites and the ground to direct the laser or maser beam to the eath location. Provision is made on one of the satellites for modifying the beam through a constructive interference filter or a diffuser/expander lens, or both, to regulate the kind of energy and the area covered at the earth location.

A water cushion particularly suited for use in supporting a human body in a seated disposition in an automobile, wheel chair and the like with a greater degree of safety. The cushion includes a flexible envelope adapted to be filled with water including a first zone configured to receive in supporting relation the buttock of a seated person and having defined therein an unbaffled chamber, and a second zone for receiving in supporting relation the thighs of the person having defined therein a plurality of chambers arranged in mutual parallelism and communicating with the chamber of the first zone, whereby the rigidity of the second zone is enhanced as the pressure applied by the weight of the person is increased.
