A method including percutaneously positioning a delivery device in a blood vessel; locally introducing a treatment agent from the delivery device into the blood vessel upstream of an infarcted area or distressed area; and following introducing the treatment agent, occluding the blood vessel for a dwell time sufficient to allow the treatment agent to flow into targeted capillaries in or adjacent to the infarcted area. A system comprising a delivery device suitable for percutaneous insertion into a blood vessel of a patient, the delivery device comprising an occluding portion and a delivery cannula having a lumen therethrough; a controller coupled to a proximal portion of the delivery device comprising instruction logic to perform a method including introducing a treatment agent into the delivery cannula; and occluding a blood vessel following a predetermined delay time after introducing the treatment agent.

System for the injection of cells and/or biologically active materials into coronary arteries for therapeutic purposes

A medical device comprising a coating thereon comprising a biocompatible polymer and heparin is provided herein. Heparin is coupled with the biocompatible polymer via a spacer having a grouping that renders a binding site of the heparin molecule accessible by a binding protein. The medical device can be implanted in a human being for the treatment of a disease such as atherosclerosis, thrombosis, restenosis, hemorrhage, vascular dissection or perforation, vascular aneurysm, vulnerable plaque, chronic total occlusion, claudication, anastomotic proliferation for vein and artificial grafts, bile duct obstruction, ureter obstruction, tumor obstruction, or combinations thereof.

A block copolymer comprising a fluorinated block and a non-fluorinated block and method of making the block copolymer are provided. Also provided herein are a coating on an implantable device comprising the block copolymer and method of using the implantable device.

Coatings for a surface, especially a priming coating, of the present invention have been found to be durable, resistant to oxidative degradation, erosion and depolymerization, stable to sterilization and low particulating, and are easily applied to the required surface of a substrate in a surface-independent manner. Such coatings, when used as priming coatings to be coated with a subsequent coating, in at least some embodiments, form exterior coatings which are also highly durable and are stable to sterilization and aging.

Coating for a surface

A copolymer which includes at least one biologically compatible structural moiety and at least one biologically active moiety is disclosed. The copolymer can be used for fabricating a coating for an implantable medical device such as a stent.

Biocompatible coating for implantable medical devices

Bioscaffoldings formed of hydrogels that are crosslinked in situ in an infarcted region of the heart (myocardium) by a Michael's addition reaction or by a disulfide bond formed by an oxidative process are described. Each of the bioscaffoldings described includes hyaluronan as one of the hydrogel components and the other component is selected from collagen, collagen-laminin, poly-1-lysine, and fibrin. The bioscaffolding may further include an alginate component. The bioscaffoldings may have biofunctional groups such as angiogenic factors and stem cell homing factors bound to the collagen, collagen-laminin, poly-1-lysine, or fibrinogen hydrogel component. In particular, the biofunctional groups may be PR11, PR39, VEGF, bFGF, a polyarginine/DNA plasmid complex, or a DNA/polyethyleneimine (PEI) complex. Additionally, the hydrogel components may be injected into the infarct region along with stem cells and microspheres containing stem cell homing factors. The bioscaffolding may be formed on a stent or a cardiac medical device.

Hydrogel bioscaffoldings and biomedical device coatings

Methods, devices, kits and compositions to treat a myocardial infarction. In one embodiment, the method includes the prevention of remodeling of the infarct zone of the ventricle. In other embodiments, the method includes the introduction of structurally reinforcing agents. In other embodiments, agents are introduced into a ventricle to increase compliance of the ventricle. In an alternative embodiment, the prevention of remodeling includes the prevention of thinning of the ventricular infarct zone. In another embodiment, the prevention of remodeling and thinning of the infarct zone involves the cross-linking of collagen and prevention of collagen slipping. In other embodiments, the structurally reinforcing agent may be accompanied by other therapeutic agents. These agents may include but are not limited to pro-fibroblastic and angiogenic agents.
