Floor sweeping compound of the type conventionally containing sawdust, sand, and petroleum oil is modified by substituting, for the petroleum oil, inexpensive acid oils (or their salts) obtained as byproducts during the process of refining plant-derived oil, thereby rendering the compound both biodegradable and less expensive.

Floor sweeping composition

A substantially solvent-free two-part polyurethaneurea composition having excellent adhesion to elastomeric substrates, comprising the reaction product of a macrodiol endcapped with an oligomeric aromatic amine and a polyisocyanate or prepolymer. With selected compositions, curing can be effected in moist conditions, or even under water. The composition provides an excellent sealant or repair for elastomeric/rubberized articles such as waders, etc.

Polyurethaneurea composition

A primed polymeric article is provided. The article comprises a polymeric substrate having graft polymerized thereon at least one organic nucleophilic graft-polymerizable monomer or salt thereof which is capable of accelerating the cure of a cyanoacrylate adhesive. The invention also provides an article wherein the primed polymeric article is adhered to a substrate with a cyanoacrylate adhesive and a method for adhering a polymeric first substrate to a second substrate with a cyanoacrylate adhesive.

Priming polymeric surfaces for cyanoacrylate adhesives

Constrained layer damping structures are often based on viscoelastic layers of iso-octyl acrylate:acrylic acid or analogous copolymers. As the acrylic acid content is increased, the peak damping temperature also increases; unfortunately, however, the copolymer becomes more brittle and susceptible to shock, especially at low temperatures. Incorporating small amounts of rubbery polymer particles (especially core-shell polymers) in the viscoelastic copolymer alleviates this problem.

Primed polymeric surfaces for cyanoacrylate adhesives

A grouting composition for sealing structures to inhibit water leakage therethrough and for stabilizing soil is provided. The composition is provided as a two-part system. Part A is an aqueous solution of a hydrophililc, water soluble prepolymer having a polyether backbone and terminal active olefinic groups, the olefinic groups being connected to the polyether backbone by linking groups selected from --NH--, --CONH--, --OCONH--, and --NHCONH--, and tertiary amine catalyst. Part B is an aqueous solution of a initiator. Parts A and B are mixed and react to form a gel.

Grouting composition

A method for adhering surfaces together using fast curing epoxy resin compositions is provided. The method includes the steps of mixing together (a) a curable glycidyl ether epoxide group-containing compound, (b) an amino-terminated aliphatic polyether curing agent, (c) a polymeric toughening agent having both a rubbery phase and a thermoplastic phase or being capable of forming, with the epoxide group-containing material, both a rubbery phase and a thermoset phase on curing, and (d) a metal salt catalyst capble of providing an exotherm of at least 20.degree. C.; applying the resulting mixture to a portion of at least one surface; contacting the surface having the mixture applied thereto to a second surface in bonding relationship with the mixture disposed between the surfaces; and curing the mixture.

Method for adhering surfaces using fast curing epoxy resin compositions

An epoxy resin composition is provided. This composition contains (a) a curable glycidyl ether epoxide group-containing material, (b) an amino- terminated aliphatic polyether curing agent, (c) a polymeric toughening agent having both a rubbery phase and a thermoplastic phase or being capable of forming, with the epoxide group-containing material, both a rubbery phase and a thermoset phase on curing, and (d) a metal salt catalyst capable of providing an exotherm of at least 20.degree. C.

Fast curing epoxy resin compositions

Cyanoacrylate adhesive compositions containing (a) a toughener (e.g., a core-shell copolymer such as an MBS, ABS, or MABS copolymer), the toughener optionally being treated to remove impurities which cause premature polymerization of cyanoacrylates, and (b) cyanoacrylate-compatible, toughener-compatible sustainer (e.g., an organic compound containing one or more unsubstituted or substituted aryl groups, such as diphenylmethane or dichlorobenzene). The inclusion of sustainer provides improved retention of toughness after heat aging of cured bonds of the adhesive.
