A light source comprising a light generating element and a reflector, said reflector comprised of a generally parabolic shaped body including an at least substantially closed end and an open end, the light source disposed generally adjacent said closed end, said reflector including a light reflecting coating on both an internal and an external surface of said body, wherein a portion of said external surface of said body adjacent the closed end of the reflector is substantially devoid of said coating.

Increased life reflector lamps

A lamp including a light source ( ) housed within a reflector ( ), the reflector further includes a coating ( ) over a major portion of an inner ( ) and/or outer surface ( ). The coating ( ) is comprised of multiple layers of high and low index of refraction materials to provide at least 90% reflectance between about 425 and 750 nanometers and less than 20% reflectance peaks between about 900 nanometers and 1800 nanometers

Optical interference coatings and lamps using same

Thin film interference filters consisting of alternating layers of tantala and silica suitable for high temperature use on electric lamps have been made by heat treating at 550.degree.-675.degree. C. before using the filters at high temperature. Tungsten halogen lamps made with such heat treated filters have been thermally cycled for thousands of cycles at 900.degree. C. with no film loss and with satisfactory optical performance.

Tantala-silica interference filters and lamps using same

A general service incandescent lamp having a tungsten filament, an improved inner shaped bulb and a temperature resistant infrared reflective film on the outer surface of the inner bulb is disclosed. The inner bulb has an ellipsoidal shape which cooperates with the tungsten filament and infrared film to provide a highly efficient incandescent lamp.
