A steering controller can control steering of a vehicle and is suitable for precision farm controlling. The steering controller can rotate the steering shaft of the vehicle direct the vehicle on a desired path, for example, using a satellite positioning system. Components of the steering controller are environmental protected by a housing that has an opening extending between its front and rear surfaces. The opening is lined by a shaft. A hub located near the front of the opening can be coupled to the steering shaft of the vehicle. A motor has a stator fixed to the housing and a rotor fixed to the hub. When the housing is attached to a fixed location on the vehicle, the motor can rotate the steering shaft by rotating the hub with respect to the housing. A control module drives the motor based on commands from a guidance module.

Steering controller for precision farming

A wheel motor can include a stator adapted to be coupled to a vehicle. The stator can include a body portion and a core extending radially outward from the body portion. A rotor can be disposed about the stator and can have a portion positioned radially outboard of and around the stator core. The rotor can include a plurality of magnets aligned with the stator core, and can be adapted to be coupled to a rotatable vehicle component. At least one winding element can be disposed circumferentially around the stator core, and a controller can be positioned in a pocket integrally formed in the stator body portion. The controller can be coupled to the at least one winding element and can be arranged to selectively provide a current supply to the at least one winding element to generate a magnetic flux to rotate the rotor relative to the stator.

Wheel motor

A submersible turbine-generator unit includes two or more turbines mounted on a common shaft with a generator therebetween. Each such turbine is capable of providing relatively low-speed, unidirectional rotation under a reversible ultra low head pressure and/or low velocity fluid flow. A plurality of airfoil-shaped turbine blades mount parallel to the common shaft and transversely to the direction of fluid flow for rotation in a plane parallel to the fluid flow. The turbines convert energy in the waterway currents into mechanical energy that will transfer through the turbine shaft to a cylindrical permanent magnet generator which will convert mechanical energy in the form of RPM and torque into electricity. Electricity from the variable speed electric generator is controlled, synchronized, conditioned and transformed into utility-grade electricity using a power electronics system in each module.

Submersible turbine-generator unit for ocean and tidal currents

A polisher has a polishing disc on a shaft driven by a brushless DC motor driven by a motor controller mounted spaced from the polisher and adjacent a ground fault interrupt circuit and a power plug. Power and control wires form a cord that provides communication between a speed control switch, and a speed set switch, mounted on a handle of a polisher housing, which is a magnetic field sensor responsive to a movable magnet. The speed set switch sends a signal to the motor controller either to maintain the current speed of the motor or to allow the speed of the motor to vary in accordance with the output of of the speed control switch. The speed control switch is a variable output switch which can be an optical potentiometer constructed by reflecting light from a light source off a reflective surface forming part of a spring loaded trigger.

Hand held electric polisher

A vacuum cleaner includes a housing adapted for movement on a subjacent surface and a nozzle defined in the housing, the nozzle having an opening. A brushroll tube, having first and second ends and a longitudinal axis, is rotatably mounted to the housing adjacent the nozzle opening. At least one cleaning element protrudes from the brushroll tube. A shaft is located in the brushroll tube and extends along the longitudinal axis thereof. A stator is rigidly mounted on the shaft. A cylinder surrounds the shaft and the stator and is spaced therefrom. The cylinder is rigidly connected to the brushroll tube. A permanent magnet rotor is fixedly mounted to an interior surface of the cylinder. The permanent magnet rotor overlies and is coaxial with the stator and is spaced therefrom. The rotor and stator form a motor for rotating the brushroll tube wherein the rotor is driven by changes in induced magnetic fields in the stator.

Internally driven agitator

A drive roller has a brushless D.C. motor with a stator or armature mounted on a fixed shaft and directly driving a 16 pole permanent magnet rotor mounted inside a roller tube. A motor controller drive supplies three-phase power to a Y-connected three phase winding having three groups of two coils, forming twelve electromagnets which drive the rotor. The modular motor is readily built in one inch increments to supply one lb-in of torque for each increment. The controller operates at a relatively low frequency of 15-75 Hz. Hall effect sensors provide feedback on motor speed and position. The armature laminations are relatively thick because of the relatively low power necessary to drive the motor and the resultant relatively low eddy currents present in the motor core. A 4.0 lb-in torque motor with a rotor and stator length of four inches will draw approximately 0.8 amps consuming about 15 Watts.

Modular gearless motorized conveyor roller

A hybrid alternator comprising a stator, and a rotor mounted for rotation within the stator and separated therefrom by an air gap. The rotor has a rotor core defining a plurality of magnetic poles wherein adjacent ones of the magnetic poles having alternating north and south magnetic fields. The plurality of magnetic poles comprises a plurality of permanent magnet poles and a plurality of electromagnetic poles. Each permanent magnet pole is defined by a permanent magnet. The plurality of permanent magnet poles comprises two (2) sets of diametrically positioned permanent magnet poles. Each permanent magnet is positioned within the rotor perimeter and associated with a pair of adjacent magnetic poles to form adjacent permanent magnet poles.

Hybrid alternator

The drive roller of this invention utilizes a brushless D.C. motor which has a stator or armature mounted on a fixed shaft which directly drives a permanent magnet rotor mounted inside a roller tube. A variable frequency drive supplies three-phase power to a Y-connected three phase winding which is composed of three groups of two coils. Thus twelve electromagnets are formed which drive the permanent magnet rotor which has sixteen poles. The brushless D.C. motor is of a modular design and can be easily built in one inch length increments to supply one lb-in of torque for each one-inch increment. The variable frequency controller operates at a relatively low frequency of 15-75 Hz. Hall effect sensors are used to provide feedback on motor speed and position. The armature laminations making up the brushless D.C. motor core are also relatively thick because of the relatively low power necessary to drive the motor and the resultant relatively low eddy currents present in the motor core. For a motor with a 4.0 lb-in design torque and a rotor and stator length of four inches, the current draw will be approximately 0.8 amps consuming about 15 Watts of power.

Gearless motorized conveyor roller

A drive roller for a conveyor is rotated by a brushless D.C. motor without any intervening gear reducer. The drove roller has a laminated metal stator with at least three windings external to the stator core. The stator is fixed to a rigid axially extending shaft which supports a roller tube and a permanent magnet rotor on bearings. The rotor is fixed to the roller tube and closely spaced from the stator. A variable frequency power supply controls the induced magnetic field in the stator to control the rotational speed of the drive roller.

Gearless motorized roller with variable frequency controller

A hybrid alternator comprising a stator, and a rotor mounted for rotation within the stator and separated therefrom by an air gap, said rotor having a rotor core defining a plurality of magnetic poles, adjacent ones of the magnetic poles having alternating north and south magnetic fields, the plurality of magnetic poles comprising at least one permanent magnetic pole defined by a permanent magnet, and a plurality of electromagnetic poles, each of which is defined by a wound field.

A hybrid alternator comprising a stator, and a rotor mounted for rotation within the stator and separated therefrom by an air gap. The rotor has a rotor core defining a plurality of magnetic poles wherein adjacent ones of the magnetic poles have alternating north and south magnetic fields. The plurality of magnetic poles comprises a plurality of permanent magnet poles and a plurality of electromagnetic poles. Each permanent magnet pole is defined by a permanent magnet. The plurality of permanent magnet poles comprises two (2) sets of diametrically positioned permanent magnet poles. Each permanent magnet is positioned within the rotor perimeter and associated with a pair of adjacent magnetic poles to form adjacent permanent magnet poles. The hybrid alternator also includes a temperature monitoring voltage regulator that provides protection against overheating damage while permitting the alternator to significantly exceed its rated output for short periods of time or in colder ambient temperatures.

A hybrid alternator includes a stator and a rotor, with the rotor having longitudinally separate wound field and permanent magnet rotor portions. A rotor excitation circuit applies a forward polarity to the wound field rotor portion to increase output in a boosting mode at low RPMs and a reverse polarity to decrease output at high RPMs in a bucking mode to maintain a constant voltage output. Alternative embodiments combine a magnetic flux concentrating design for efficient low speed operation with integral strength for high speed capability. Dual voltage output is provided either through dual stator windings or through a voltage converter circuit. Single voltage output is provided using only one stator winding. A three state voltage regulator allows voltage regulation without inducing reverse currents onto the power bus in the lightly loaded or no battery conditions.

Hybrid alternator with full output at idle

A vehicle based AC power system includes a specialized high efficiency vehicle alternator capable of supplying its maximum rated DC output current, even when being driven by an idling vehicle engine, to power a DC to AC inverter and provide maximum rated AC power at any engine speed. The alternator is preferably a wound field and permanent magnet hybrid alternator employing a three state bridge-type voltage regulator. An electrical load monitor electrically connected to monitor the electrical load on the alternator and a transmitter and receiver are used to remotely signal a user whenever there is an excessive load on the system.
