A method for preparing a sample by utilizing a shearing force in the presence of a size stabilizer to break apart the sample to obtain nucleic acid molecules in a usable size range. Once nucleic acid molecules are obtained, magnetic entanglement particles are used to concentrate and clean the nucleic acid molecules for further testing.

Method and system for sample preparation

Monochromatic or multichromatic images may be created on surfaces. The surface is moved to first, second and third stations. The surface is electrically biased, and powder is transferred to the surface electrostatically at the first station. The powder is fused or sintered selectively on the surface at the second station. Unfused or unsintered portions of the powder are removed from the surface at the third station.

A method and apparatus of producing images on a series of master plates that are suitable for use as printing plates for the reproduction of multiple copies of composite images from said plates. The master plates are supported with a predetermined alignment relative to each other before mounting on a printing press. Counterpart raster lines of images on the master plates are recorded simultaneously or substantially simultaneously using preferably an ink jet printer so that the counterpart raster lines are printed in alignment.

An ink jet printing apparatus having a cleaning station that cleans the orifice plate with a cleaning liquid. The cleaning liquid includes a hydrophobic additive that has a strong affinity for the orifice plate material and which coats the orifice plate to form a protective coating. If a portion of the protective coating is removed, that portion will be repaired by the additive.

A method of forming color proof images of inks on a printing stock prior to a production or press run, comprising the steps of providing a receiver having a peelable substrate, such receiver including a layer having a mordant in a binder formed over the substrate which will form a bond with colorant in the ink and an ink-receiving layer formed over the mordant layer which is permeable to ink, but which restricts spreading of ink as it passes through such layer to the mordant layer; depositing ink having colorants onto the ink-receiving layer to form a color proof image in the mordant layer; and laminating the receiver to a printing stock and removing the peelable substrate from the receiver to form the color proof.

Ink color proofing

An ink jet print head is provided that includes a nozzle plate having an outer metal layer having nozzles for ejecting ink drops, and a coating of a non-wetting polymer chemically bound over the outer surface of the metal layer of the plate. Preferably, the polymer is a block polymer having a head that includes the chemical group that chemically bonds with the outer metal layer, and a tail that is hydrophobic. The resulting polymer coating prevents inks from pooling, drying, and creating deposits which would otherwise impede or clog the ink jet nozzles. The chemical bonding between the non-wettable polymer and the metal surface creates a highly durable polymeric layer that resists being wiped off during both printing and head cleaning operations.

A lithographic imaging member is prepared by applying an ink jetable fluid to a fluid-receiving element that includes a clay-containing fluid-receiving surface layer. This layer also includes a water-soluble binder and a silane hardening agent. The applied fluid is an aqueous solution of a silane having multiple hydroxy, alkoxy or acetoxy groups that is readily absorbed in the clay-containing surface, and dried to provide an oleophilic image.

An ink jet receiver which provides variable dot sizes, comprising a substrate, an ink-receiving layer disposed over the substrate, and a removable ink delivery layer which, in response to a droplet of ink, absorbs a portion of the ink and delivers another portion of the ink to the ink receiving layer so that a dot is formed in the ink-receiving layer.

A microfluidic printing apparatus includes at least one ink reservoir; a structure defining a plurality of chambers arranged so that the chambers form an array with each chamber being arranged to form an ink pixel; a plurality of microchannels connecting the reservoir to a chamber and a plurality of microfluidic pumps each being associated with a single microchannel for supplying ink from an ink reservoir through a microchannel for delivery to a particular chamber. The apparatus detects the ink fluid level in the chambers and for producing a signal, and controls the microfluidic pumps for delivering the correct amount of ink delivered into each chamber and responsive to the ink level signal for causing the pumps to terminate the delivery of ink.

A direct write lithographic printing plate includes a base layer; a metal light absorbing layer provided over the base layer; and a melanophobic layer provided over the metal absorbing layer and selected to have a thickness which minimizes reflection of light from the metal layer so that light which passes through a selected portion of the melanophobic layer and into the metal light absorbing layer, is absorbed by such metal layer to provide a heat source which causes the removal, at the selected portion, of the melanophobic layer.
