Techniques for open application lifecycle management frameworks are described, including using a framework hosted on one or more computers and having one or more services to integrate the one or more services with one or more applications using one or more providers, each of the one or more providers is adapted to at least one of the one or more applications, registering one or more repositories associated with the one or more applications using a location service module, receiving an input creating a project context associated with a project, data associated with the input being stored in a data structure associated with the project, the data structure being stored in a repository associated with the framework, generating a link, after registering the one or more repositories, between one or more element containers associated with the project, the link and the one or more element containers being stored in the repository, and configuring the framework to detect another input indicating interaction with an artifact, other data associated with the interaction being mapped between the one or more repositories and the repository using a domain model.

Embodiments described herein provide systems and methods for a self-describing tape that allow files stored on a tape according to a tape file system to be presented in a similar manner (e.g., to an operating system, to a network file system interface) by different instances of a second type of file system (e.g., a non-tape file system). This can include, for example, allowing a file system of the second type to consistently present files over a network file system interface as being available at the same directory path location, according to the same permissions.

Techniques using process-pair protection of complex applications are disclosed which provide fast and stateful application failover.

Process pair protection for complex applications

A method and apparatus for providing process-pair protection to complex applications is provided. The apparatus of the present invention includes a process-pair manager or PPM. The PPM is replicated so that a respective PPM is deployed on each of two computer systems. Each computer system also hosts a watchdog process that monitors and restarts the PPM in case of PPM failures. Each PPM communicates with a respective instance of an application. The application instances may include one or more processes along with associated resources. During normal operation the primary application provides service and periodically checkpoints its state to the backup application. The backup application functions in a standby mode. The two PPMs communicate with each other and exchange messages as state changes occur. The apparatus also includes in each computer system a node watcher that is the PPM of failures of the remote computer system. This way, each monitor the state of the other application instance and the health of the computer system on which it is resident. If a failure of the primary application or of the computer system where it runs is detected, the PPM managing the backup application takes steps to cause its instance of the application to become primary. The failover operation is faster (between 5 and 20 seconds) than corresponding operations provided by other existing methods (between one and 40 minutes depending on the application initialization time) because the backup application does not need to be started and initialized to become primary. The failover is stateful because the backup application receives periodic updates of the state of the primary application.

Method and apparatus for providing process pair protection for complex applications

An override control system for an automatic sprinkler system of the type having a control box with a timer for turning on and off at least one sprinkler valve, each sprinkler valve having a valve line which connects to a common line. The override control system includes a probe assembly, having a probe support, a probe having spaced apart electrically conductive members supported by the probe support, and a removable reservoir connectable to the probe support for containing the probe for above ground support while the probe assembly is being used above the ground. The reservoir is removable so that the electrically conductive members are in direct contact with ground dirt when the reservoir is removed and the members are positioned beneath the ground. An electrical circuit is positioned between each valve line and the common line. The electrical circuit includes a relay system so that if moisture between the electrically conductive members is above a predetermined threshold the relay system of the electrical circuit will be activated inhibiting sprinkler operation. If moisture between the electrically conductive members is below the predetermined threshold, the relay system will not energize, thereby allowing said sprinkler system to operate normally.

Override control system for an automatic sprinkler system

An airflow register for an air conditioning system for an enclosure such as room within a house or an office within a building. The register includes a series of louvers which can be located in either an open position or a closed position. The open position permits air to flow through the register and the closed position prevents air from flowing through the register. Louvers are to be movable by a motor with this motor being operated by a light sensor mounted on the exterior surface of the register. Upon an observable lightened environment being detected by the light sensor, the motor is activated which will locate the louvers in the open position. Upon an observable darkened condition being sensed by the light sensor, the motor is activated which will locate the louvers in the closed position. A flow limiter may be used to keep the louvers slightly open when in the closed position to have some heated air enter the room when the ambient temperature is severely cold.
