A thermal bridge forms a connection between a cold side and a hot side that is capable of withstanding a large temperature differential while high-pressure gas (e.g., air) flows between the two sides within an internal passageway. A cold-side region and hot-side region of the thermal bridge may each have a flange with a plurality of holes. The cold-side region may also include a conical fillet with counterbore recesses to provide access to each of the plurality of holes from a low radial position.

Thermal bridge for connecting sections with a large temperature differential under high-pressure conditions

A hand tool with a mechanical linear drive mechanism coupled to a work implement. The drive mechanism includes a roller screw with a torque tube connected to a roller screw's nut body. The roller screw includes a fixed outer race, a rotating set of rollers axially aligned inside the outer race, a cylindrical nut body located inside the set of rollers, a plurality of inner rollers axially aligned and inside the nut body, a threaded shaft axially aligned and inside the inner rollers, and a torque tube axially aligned inside the inner rollers. The torque tube is connected to a multiple speed gearbox which includes a primary motor coupled to a carrier gear with three planet gears. Disposed around the planet gears is an outer ring gear. Coupled to the outer ring gear is a secondary motor which when activated causes the ring gear to rotate in the opposite direction of the planet gears.

Tool with linear drive mechanism, dual speed gearbox and elastomeric control system

A low clearance, high load capacity roller bearing that includes a cylindrical outer race with a set of non-helical grooves formed on its inside surface that mesh with teeth formed on the outside surface of a plurality of rotating rollers longitudinally and axially aligned inside the outer race. Located inside the rollers are two cylindrical inner race pieces each with non-helical outer grooves configured to mesh with the teeth on the rollers. The rollers are longitudinally aligned and evenly spaced apart inside the outer race and outside the inner race assembly by two retainer plates. The two inner race pieces are separated by a uniform circular gap in which a circular shim is disposed. Different lengths of inner race pieces may be used to create-different gap widths to reduce the clearance or to pre-load the bearing. Shims with different widths slightly larger or smaller than the gap are placed in the gap.

Low clearance high capacity roller bearing

A high load capacity bearing that includes a cylindrical outer sleeve that fits around a separable cylindrical outer race assembly. The outer race assembly includes a set of non-helical grooves formed on its inside surface that mesh and engage teeth formed on the outside surface of a plurality of rotating rollers that are longitudinally and axially aligned inside the outer race assembly. The rollers are longitudinally aligned and evenly space apart and rotated as a unit inside the outer race assembly. Located inside the rollers is an inner race with non-helical grooves formed on its outside surface that mesh and engage the teeth on the rollers. The inner race includes a smooth inside bore that fits around the support surface on a shaft. During use, the inner race is becomes fixed on a support surface on a shaft and the outer sleeve and outer race assembly are mounted on a part.

High capacity bearing

A hand tool with a mechanical linear drive mechanism coupled to a linear activated working implement. The drive mechanism includes a geared planetary roller screw that includes a torque tube connected to a roller screw's nut body. The planetary roller screw includes a fixed outer race, a rotating set of grooved rollers axially aligned inside the outer race, a cylindrical nut body located inside the set of grooved roller, a plurality of inner rollers axially aligned and inside the nut body, a threaded shaft axially aligned and inside the inner rollers, and a torque tube axially aligned inside the inner rollers. The torque tube is connected at one end to a gear box which is coupled to an electric motor. When the electric motor is activated, the torque tube is rotated which causes a threaded shaft in the tool to move axially. A working implement is coupled to the distal end of the threaded shaft.

High-capacity bearing

A gas turbine engine includes a compressor having first annular connection structure at a forward end portion of an air inlet housing of the compressor. The gas turbine engine may also include intake ducting having second annular connection structure adjacent a central passage of the intake ducting. The first annular connection structure and the second annular connection structure may form at least part of an interface between the air inlet housing and the intake ducting during operation of the gas turbine engine. The first and second annular connection structures may have shapes allowing the first annular connection structure to be moved through and beyond the second annular connection structure in a forward direction, the forward direction being opposite a direction of compressed air flow in the compressor during operation.

Gas turbine engine and system for servicing a gas turbine engine

In one aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a turbine engine. The engine may include a main housing defining a compressor compartment and an air intake housing mounted to the main housing. The engine may also include a rotor including a compressor portion disposed within the compressor compartment, and a hub portion extending from the compressor compartment through an opening in the air intake housing into a bearing compartment defined by the air intake housing. The engine may further include a seal mounted in the opening in the air intake housing in an annular gap between the hub portion of the rotor and the air intake housing and configured to form a seal between the bearing compartment and the compressor compartment. The seal may be configured to be removed from the opening in the air intake housing while the air intake housing is mounted to the main housing.

Seal for a turbine engine

A gas turbine engine. The engine is based on the use of a gas turbine driven rotor having a compression ramp traveling at a local supersonic inlet velocity (based on the combination of inlet gas velocity and tangential speed of the ramp) which compresses inlet gas against a stationary sidewall. The supersonic compressor efficiently achieves high compression ratios while utilizing a compact, stabilized gasdynamic flow path. Operated at supersonic speeds, the inlet stabilizes an oblique/normal shock system in the gasdynamic flow path formed between the rim of the rotor, the strakes, and a stationary external housing. Part load efficiency is enhanced by use of a lean pre-mix system, a pre-swirl compressor, and a bypass stream to bleed a portion of the gas after passing through the pre-swirl compressor to the combustion gas outlet. Use of a stationary low NOx combustor provides excellent emissions results.

Gas turbine power plant with supersonic shock compression ramps

A gas compressor based on the use of a driven rotor having an axially oriented compression ramp traveling at a local supersonic inlet velocity (based on the combination of inlet gas velocity and tangential speed of the ramp) which forms a supersonic shockwave axially, between adjacent strakes. In using this method to compress inlet gas, the supersonic compressor efficiently achieves high compression ratios while utilizing a compact, stabilized gasdynamic flow path. Operated at supersonic speeds, the inlet stabilizes an oblique/normal shock system in the gasdyanamic flow path formed between the gas compression ramp on a strake, the shock capture lip on the adjacent strake, and captures the resultant pressure within the stationary external housing while providing a diffuser downstream of the compression ramp.

Supersonic compressor

A gas compressor based on the use of a driven rotor having a compression ramp traveling at a local supersonic inlet velocity (based on the combination of inlet gas velocity and tangential speed of the ramp) which compresses inlet gas against a stationary sidewall. In using this method to compress inlet gas, the supersonic compressor efficiently achieves high compression ratios while utilizing a compact, stabilized gasdynamic flow path. Operated at supersonic speeds, the inlet stabilizes an oblique/normal shock system in the gasdyanamic flow path formed between the rim of the rotor, the strakes, and a stationary external housing. Part load efficiency is enhanced by the use of a pre-swirl compressor, and using a bypass stream to bleed a portion of the intermediate pressure gas after passing through the pre-swirl compressor back to the inlet of the pre-swirl compressor. Inlet guide vanes to the compression ramp enhance overall efficiency.

Supersonic gas compressor

A higher efficiency roller screw system that includes a nut body designed to engage a threaded shaft. The nut body includes a center bore with closed, partial helical grooves formed therein. Disposed inside the center bore is a shaft with open helical threads formed thereon. A plurality of rollers with non-helical grooves formed thereon are also disposed inside the nut body's center bore and longitudinally aligned with the shaft. The grooves on each roller are designed to engage the grooves on the nut body and the threads on the shaft. The nut body includes a cross-over region where the trajectory of the internal grooves extend radially outward and axially. When the rollers' grooves contact the grooves in the cross-over region, the rollers are forced outward to maintain contact with the grooves on the nut body and are deflected axially. When they move outward, they disengage from the helical threads on the shaft. As the nut body continues to rotate, the grooves on the rollers maintain contact with the grooves on the nut body and re-engage the helical threads on the shaft.

Roller screw system

The present turbine wheel assembly increases component life and turbine engine longevity. The combination of the strap and the opening combined with the preestablished area of the outer surface of the opening and the preestablished area of the outer circumferential surface of the strap and the friction between the strap and the opening increases the life and longevity of the turbine wheel assembly. Furthermore, the mass 'M' or combined mass 'CM' of the strap or straps and the centrifugal force assist in controlling vibrations and damping characteristics.

Turbine blade vibration dampening

A turbine blade having a preestablished rate of thermal expansion is attached to a turbine wheel having a preestablished rate of thermal expansion being greater than the preestablished rate of thermal expansion of the turbine blade. The turbine wheel includes a pair of side walls having a groove formed therebetween and a pair of axially aligned holes radially positioned therein. The turbine blade has a root portion having a bore positioned therein. A pin having a preestablished rate of thermal expansion being substantially equal to the rate of thermal expansion of the blade is positioned within the axially aligned holes and the bore attaches the blade to the turbine wheel.
