A blowout safety system particularly preferred for use in providing emergency protection when blowouts occur during snubbing operations due to unexpected surges in downhole pressure. The safety system comprises a spring biased valve assembly having a flapper adapted to seal off the upward flow of well fluids through the wellhead immediately upon expulsion of the well tubulars when a blowout occurs, and a port within the valve assembly for simultaneously diverting the upward flow of well fluids to a location remote from the well when the flapper closes.

Blowout safety system for snubbing equipment

A wireline retrievable jet cleaning tool (10) comprising an adapter axle (12), a longitudinally extending axle (16), and a nozzle housing (14) rotatably mounted around the axle (16), the nozzle housing having at least two longitudinally spaced-apart nozzle sections (18A, 18B) adapted to sweep jets of cleaning fluid over longitudinally spaced target areas in a well tool or tubular, each nozzle section (18A, 18B) preferably having at least one tangentially directed nozzle (44), at least one radially directed nozzle (48) and at least one obliquely directed nozzle (52). A longitudinally reciprocating jet cleaning tool (60) comprising a rotatable nozzle housing (64) adapted to rotate around and slide longitudinally along a fixed axle (66) responsive to increased fluid pressures is also provided.

Wireline retrievable jet cleaning tool

A system and methods for the inspection of a well borehole and the formation around said borehole. The system includes a coiled tubing unit for injecting flexible coiled tubing into a wellbore through a wellhead, a pump and valves for control of injection of fluids such as water, nitrogen, light-hydrocarbons, natural gas, and carbon dioxide through the coiled tubing into the wellbore, and a sensor for visually inspecting and/or acoustically examining the wellbore and a region around the sensor within a slug of fluid injected into the wellbore from the coiled tubing. The method includes the steps of injecting coiled tubing having an inspection sensor into a wellbore to a selected location, injecting an optically transparent or acoustically homogenous fluid into the wellbore through the coiled tubing to form a slug of such fluid around the sensor, and transmitting signals from the sensor representative of well conditions to the surface. The method may be practiced to inspect only the region around the sensor at a selected depth in the well or may be continuously practiced to examine the length of the wellbore by producing the well and retrieving the coiled tubing and sensor at a controlled rate synchronized with the rate of well production.

Downhole inspection system

A method and apparatus for injecting coiled tubing into a submerged well. The end of a coiled tubing is latched in a tubing injector and the tubing and injector are lowered through a body of water together. The injector is latched to the well and the injector moves the coiled tubing through the well. The injector weight is exerted on the tubing during movement through the body of water. The injector may be contained in a bell type or complete enclosure and fluid in the enclosure is maintained at approximately the external pressure. The injector may be connected to a shear, a stuffing box, and a tool receiver.

Method and apparatus for running coiled tubing in subsea wells

Apparatus for pressurized cleaning of flow conductors. The apparatus has a first mandrel and a second mandrel telescoped therein. A cleaning tool can be attached to the second mandrel. Changes in fluid pressure flowing through the mandrels will cause the second mandrel to rotate relative to the first mandrel. Rotation is used to direct fluid jets in the cleaning tool towards different portions of the interior of the flow conductor. Rotation of the cleaning tool can also be used for hydraulic drilling of deposits within the flow conductor.

Pressure actuated cleaning tool

An apparatus for pressurized cleaning of flow conductors. The apparatus utilizes a control slot formed in a zig-zag pattern and a pin which travels in the slot. The slot and pin assist in indexingly rotating the nozzle section of the apparatus when the apparatus is reciprocated in alternate directions in the flow conductor. Pressurized cleaning fluid is supplied to the apparatus and is directed radially outward through nozzles against the flow conductor in such a manner as to progressively clean the flow conductor as the nozzle section rotatively indexes. Another set of nozzles may be included, if desired, in the lower end of the apparatus to allow cleaning along the longitudinal axis.
