A telecommunications system can include analog-to-digital converters in an uplink communication path or a downlink communication path. The analog-to-digital converters can have a high dynamic range and bandwidth to obviate a need for down-conversion of signals using an analog mixer. The uplink communication path and the downlink communication path can be coupled to an antenna using a non-duplexer coupling device. Uplink signals traversing the uplink communication path can be isolated from downlink signals independent of using a duplexer.

Non-duplexer architectures for telecommunications system

In an embodiment, an antenna array includes at least first and second antenna rings. The antennas in the first antenna ring are each spaced apart by approximately a first distance from a center of the first antenna ring. And the second antenna rings is approximately concentric and coplanar with the first antenna ring, and each antenna of the second antenna ring is spaced approximately a second distance from the center. For example, the antennas of the first antenna ring are spaced apart by half of a first wavelength corresponding to a first frequency of a frequency range over which the antenna array is designed to operate, and the antennas of the second antenna ring are spaced apart by half of a second wavelength corresponding to a second frequency of the frequency range.

A telecommunications system may include a distortion cancellation subsystem for use with a circulator device coupling an antenna to a transmit path and a receive path. The distortion cancellation subsystem may include a correction circuit and a cancellation circuit. In some aspects, the correction circuit may include a processing device or adaptive filter to correct imperfections in transmit signal samples generated by directional couplers. The correction circuit may also include a summing device to remove receive signal components from the transmit signal samples. The cancellation circuit may receive the output signal of the correction circuit via an adaptive filter. The output of the adaptive filter may be summed with a receive signal to minimize distortion of the receive signal.

One embodiment is directed to a multiple input, multiple output ('MIMO') telecommunications system comprising a plurality of signal paths. The system further comprises mixers located in the plurality of signal paths, the mixers being coupled to oscillators for producing a plurality of signals occupying non-overlapping frequency bands and representative of wireless signals. The system further comprises a summer coupled to the plurality of signal paths for summing the plurality of signals to form summed signals. The system further comprises a shared analog-to-digital converter for converting the summed signals to digital signals.

Certain aspects involve power management subsystems for a distributed antenna system ('DAS') or other telecommunication system. The power management subsystem can include a measurement module and an optimization module. The measurement module can monitor a utilization metric for a remote unit in the DAS or other telecommunication system. The power optimization module can determine whether the remote unit is underutilized based on the monitored utilization metric. The power optimization module can configure the remote unit for a low-power operation in response to determining that the remote unit is underutilized.

One embodiment discloses an antenna structure. An antenna structure comprises: a ground plane; a transmit balanced to unbalanced (BALUN) circuit comprising a first transmit connector coupled to a combined transmit port, and a second transmit connector coupled to the combined transit port; a receive BALUN circuit comprising a first receive connector coupled to a combined receive port, and a second receive connector coupled to the combined receive port; a transmit antenna element comprising a first transmit antenna sub-element coupled to the first transmit connector and a second transmit antenna sub-element coupled to the second transmit connector; a receive antenna element independent from the transmit antenna element and comprising a first receive antenna sub-element coupled to the first receive connector and a second receive antenna sub-element coupled to the second receive connector, wherein the transmit antenna element and the receive antenna element are orthogonally-polarized with respect to each other.

Antenna structure for distributed antenna system

Certain aspects and aspects of the present invention are directed to a distributed antenna system having a downlink communication path, an uplink communication path, and a non-duplexer isolator sub-system. The downlink communication path can communicatively couple a transmit antenna to a base station. The uplink communication path can communicatively couple a receive antenna to the base station. In one aspect, the non-duplexer isolator sub-system can be electronically configured for isolating uplink signals traversing the uplink communication path from downlink signals. In another aspect, a non-duplexer isolator sub-system can be configurable in one or more mechanical steps selecting a frequency response. In another aspect, a non-duplexer isolator sub-system can include an active mitigation sub-system.

The communication device can include a processing device for communicating data via a data connection or receiving power via an electrical connection and a connector for providing the data connection or electrical connection. The connector can include at least one terminal and a sensing module. The terminal can be communicatively coupled to the processing device. The terminal can form the data connection or electrical connection with at least one external terminal of a mating connector. The sensing module can detect a movement associated with removing the mating connector. The sensing module can provide a termination signal to the processing device to terminate the data connection or electrical connection. The processing device can terminate data communication via the data connection or current flow via the electrical connection in response to the termination signal.

One embodiment discloses an antenna structure. An antenna structure comprises: a transmit antenna element comprising a plurality of transmit antenna sub-elements; a receive antenna element comprising a plurality of receive antenna sub-elements, wherein the transmit antenna element and the receive antenna element are orthogonally-polarized with respect to each other; a ground plane defining a reflector for the antenna structure; at least one electronic component coupled with the ground plane, the at least one electronic component comprising: a transmit balanced to unbalanced (BALUN) circuit configured to split a transmit signal from a transmitter into two balanced transmit signals, wherein the plurality of transmit antenna sub-elements are coupled to the transmit BALUN; and a receive BALUN circuit configured to combine feeds from the plurality of receive antenna sub-elements into a receive single output to a receiver.
