A deflection yoke for a video display system incorporates an arrangement for the introduction and distribution of adhesive to effect assembly of the yoke and mounting of the yoke to a cathode ray tube. A single adhesive inlet location transports adhesive through delivery channels to various locations about the deflection yoke to fix the relative positions of the horizontal and vertical deflection coils as well as mounting the yoke to a cathode ray tube.

The video disc player includes a selectively-actuated stylus arm lifter. When the player is in the PLAY mode, a forward bias is applied to the lifter electromagnet to cause it to lower the stylus on the record. When the player is disposed in the record LOAD/UNLOAD mode, the lifter is reverse biased to prevent the stylus from being lowered and coming in contact with moving parts during the record load/unload operations.

An envelope for a flat panel display device is comprised of two portions which respectively include a baseplate and a faceplate held in a spaced parallel relationship by a plurality of side walls. A plurality of support walls supports the envelope against collapse from atmospheric pressure. Differences in the heights of the side walls and support walls are compensated for by a flexible seal which extends around the periphery of the envelope so that the faceplate and baseplate and side walls are coupled through the flexible seal.

Envelope for flat panel display devices

A flat panel display device includes a baseplate assembly which can be readily fabricated using mass production techniques. An insulative modulator support member is affixed to the baseplate in a location accurately defined with respect to location notches in the baseplate. A distal mesh support is accuratey located and maintained with respect to the location notches in a transverse direction and is loosely held in a longitudinal direction. The modulator support member and the distal mesh support contain slots which loosely receive vanes while holding the vanes perpendicular to the baseplate. The vanes thus form channels which extend longitudinally along the baseplate and perpendicular to the modulator support. The modulator support contains a recess extending transversely across the baseplate and a plurality of longitudinally extending recesses positioned in the proximity of the center of the channels. Tabs on beam guide assemblies engage the recesses to maintain precise spacing between the beam guide assemblies and modulator support. Tabs on the distal ends of the beam guide assemblies engage recesses in the distal mesh support. Grooves in the vanes receive beads which couple the meshes forming the beam guide assemblies. Upon evacuation of the envelope formed by mating the baseplate assembly with a front wall and side walls atmospheric pressure retains the assembly in the desired orientation and the vanes support the baseplate and front wall against collapse.

Baseplate assembly for flat panel display devices

A faceplate assembly for a display device is composed of a shadow mask assembly and a frontplate assembly both of which can be individually assembled. The shadow mask assembly is composed of a plurality of vane tips positioned between a plurality of channel shaped shadow mask sections. Tie rods pass through the tips and tip spacers to hold the members together in a single assembly. The spacers are positioned inside the tip walls to control the transverse dimension of the shadow mask assembly. The frontplate assembly includes location blocks which are affixed to the frontplate in the proximity of the corners of the frontplate. Location notches are precisely located on the frontplate and the precise positions of the location blocks with respect to the location notches recorded. A shadow mask assembly and a frontplate assembly are mated and the shadow mask assembly precisely positioned by inserting shims of the required thicknesses between the location blocks and the mask assembly.

Method for preparing stylus lapping discs

A preform molding apparatus includes a mold cup which has opposed top and bottom mold members and a carrier arm between the mold members. The top mold member has a concave mold recess in its bottom surface and a semi-cylindrical rim extending downwardly from the edge of the mold recess. The bottom mold member has a concave mold recess in its top surface and a mold material inlet opening into the bottom of the mold recess. The carrier arm has a semi-cylindrical opening therethrough at one edge thereof. Pneumatic cylinders have piston rods connected to the mold members and the carrier arm for moving the mold members toward and away from each other and the carrier arm transversely across and away from the mold members. The mold members and carrier arm are adapted to be moved to a collapsed mold position in which the bottom mold member fits within the rim of the top mold member and the top mold member is within the opening in the carrier arm so that the mold recesses form a mold cavity smaller in volume than that of the preform to be molded. The mold members are movable to a mold position where the carrier arm and top mold member rim form the outer wall of the mold cavity so that the mold cavity is of a volume corresponding to that of the preform being molded.

Automatic apparatus for molding a preform

A display device includes an evacuated envelope having a back wall and a plurality of mutually parallel internal support walls. Each of the support walls comprises a separable first and second wall member. Each of the first wall members has a proximal end in contact with the back wall. The support walls are substantially perpendicular to the back wall so that the support walls partition the device into a plurality of channels. A faceplate assembly integral with one surface of the envelope comprises in combination; a viewing faceplate, a mosaic screen, registration blocks disposed on the inner surface of the faceplate beyond the screen, a plurality of second wall members detachably attached to the registration blocks so that each of the second wall members extend between the distal end of a different one of the first wall members and the screen, and a plurality of discrete shadow masks slidably attached to and extending between adjacent ones of the second wall members. Each of the shadow masks extends along substantially the entire length of a different one of the channels.
