There is provided a method for depositing asphalt from an asphalt emulsion onto an aggregate, as in road construction. Prior to applying the asphalt emulsion, the aggregate is wetted down with water containing a minor amount of an anionic or a cationic coupling agent selected to have a charge opposite to that of the asphalt emulsion.

Controlled deposition of asphalt emulsions

Asphaltic compositions are provided comprising a major proportion of straight-run asphalt, and minor proportions of a refractory aromatic residual fraction (syntower bottoms), ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and terpenic resin.

Asphalt composition and its manufacture

Improved asphalt compositions are provided which are produced by forming a homogeneous blend of marginal asphalt stock with coal-derived asphaltenes, and air-blowing the homogeneous blend to yield an asphalt composition having a viscosity-penetration index higher than about 2.5 .times. 10.sup.5.

The production of normal and premium lube grade blending stocks of 100, 300 and 700 second neutral material along with high boiling by-product material for the manufacture of asphalts is improved by using a low pressure vacuum tower provided with an overflash separation in the tower bottom from resid.

Production of lubricating oils blending stocks and selected components

Asphaltic compositions, having improved elastic properties, durability and resistance to deterioration by oil and grease and improved adhesion to aggregate particles, are provided comprising a major amount of asphalt, a minor amount of a synthetic terpenic resin and an interpolymer of ethylene, vinyl acetate and an organic acid.
