An intramedullary prosthesis particularly for a hip prosthesis. The prosthesis utilizes a tapered elongate stem undersized precisely with respect to a precisely formed stem socket in the medullary canal with the stem socket defined by cortical bone or dense cancellous bone of a long bone. A layer of coating material surrounds the undersized stem along its entire length and is of a generally uniform thickness along the entire length of the stem with the costing material filling the void area between the stem of the prosthesis and the precisely formed stem socket.

Implantation of articulating joint prosthesis

The endoprosthesis is adapted for insertion into a socket formed within the medullary canal of a patient's bone. It comprises an elongated stem defining a proximal region, a distal region, and a tip. A soft porous pad extends distally from the stem tip. The pad has a thickness greater than two millimeters. The distal region is preferably biocompatible, porous, soft, resilient, deformable, and tissue-ingrowth promoting.

The dental prosthesis is adapted for insertion into a socket formed within the patient's jaw. It comprises an elongated shaft defining a proximal region, a distal region, and a tip. A soft porous pad extends distally from the shaft tip. The distal region is preferably biocompatible, porous, soft, resilient, deformable, tissue-ingrowth promoting, and has a compressive stress per unit of strain which is substantially smaller than that of adjacent bone.

The invention, more particularly, concerns a prosthetic urinary bladder comprising a vent channel having a removable cap and a urethral discharge valve. The mandible oscillator system comprises an intraoral-extraoral appliance mounted on the upper and lower arches of the user. Extraoral oscillating means are coupled to the extraoral portion of the appliance for forcibly oscillating the lower jaw within a predetermined angular range between a starting position and an end position. During one-half cycle of oscillation, the lower jaw is forced to move away from the upper jaw, and during the other half-cycle, the lower jaw is forced to move toward the upper jaw.

The prosthetic mini-condyle is for use with a prosthetic glenoid fossa. The mini-condyle covers an excised natural condyle having a superior cut surface and a lateral cut surface. The mini-condyle has a superior, convexo-planar articular face and an inferior flat face. A shank extends inferiorly from the inferior face and is adapted to become secured to the lateral cut surface. The flat interior face is adapted to abut against the superior cut surface. Preferably, a porous bicompatible coating is bonded to the inferior face of the condyle and to the medial face of the shank.

Temporomandibular mini condyle prosthesis

An intramedullary prosthesis, particularly but not exclusively a hip prosthesis, is provided comprising an articulating member at one end and a stem at the other. The stem is shaped to conform substantially to the transverse sections of the medullary canal into which it is to be inserted, and is preferably covered with a porous resilient coating which is oversized with respect to the stem socket prepared in the medullary canal. The coating becomes compressed as the stem is inserted into the canal. The porous resilient layer also promotes the ingrowth of tissue thereby ensuring the long term fixation of the prosthesis.

An intramedullary prosthesis device and the method of orthopedic implantation of the prosthesis device, particularly for a hip prosthesis. The prosthesis device and the method of implantation are directed to a precise undersized stem socket defined by compact bone formed by cortical or dense cancellous bone, and an oversized stem of the prosthesis device coated with a soft, resilient and compressible coating so that upon insertion of the coated stem within the undersized socket the coating is compressed along the length of the stem by the surrounding compact bone of the socket.

An improved acetabular prosthesis (14) is disclosed for use with a femoral head prosthesis (12). The acetabular prosthesis (14) comprises a cup (28) having, in use, sufficient strength to maintain its shape. The exterior surface of the cup (28) is substantially hemispherical. A coating (32) of sufficient thickness is provided on the exterior surface of the cup (28). The coating (32) is sufficiently deformable and has limited elastic memory to mold itself to the particular anatomic geometry or inner contour of the acetabulum. The coating (32) has grooves (36) on its external surfaces.

The surgical TM joint implant has two-parts: a first part which covers or replaces the natural glenoid fossa and articular eminence of a natural TM joint, and a second part which replaces the natural condylar head of the joint. The first part includes a plate having a fossa cavity defined by a relatively deep concave portion and an anteriorly located concavo-planar portion. The second part has a condylar head defining a convexo-planar, articular face for engaging the concavo-planar surface and establishing therewith a planar contact area which minimizes the unit stress transmitted between the first and second parts, thereby providing for an even load distribution between their engaged planar surfaces.
