A trim panel for a motor vehicle and a method of manufacture. The trim panel includes a first layer and a second layer. The first layer includes a first surface and a second surface having an indentation. The second layer includes a third surface and a fourth surface. The third surface is disposed adjacent to the second surface and includes a protrusion disposed adjacent to the indentation and an aperture disposed proximate the protrusion. The protrusion concentrates force against the indentation to sever the first layer when sufficient force is applied to the fourth surface.

An energy absorbing countermeasure for motor vehicle doors comprises a body having at least a first zone and a second zone. Each zone has at least one surface with recesses in the surface and portions between recesses. The portions are broken upon impact and enter into the recess to exhibit energy absorbing efficiency. The recesses in the first zone are arranged or configured to absorb a first desired peak load during impact and the recesses in the second zone are arranged or configured to absorb a second desired peak load during impact. The first desired peak load is different from the second desired peak load.

A control panel assembly for a vehicle includes a moveable panel having a primary face and an edge face. The moveable panel movable between a first position and a second position. A first control device is mounted on the primary face of the moveable panel. The first control device is generally exposed when the moveable panel is in the first position. A second control device is mounted on the edge face of the moveable panel. The second control device is generally exposed when the moveable panel is in the second position.

Control panel assembly for a vehicle

The push-push latch of the present invention is attached to a storage compartment and allows the door of the compartment to move between an open position and a closed position. The latch will remain closed and in a locked position when the door is subjected to a force greater than a predetermined force. The latch includes a track member and a guide member. The track member is molded of a polymer and generally defines a heart shaped track having an integrated retaining section and a channel connecting the heart shaped track and the retaining section. The guide member moves within the heart shaped track to facilitate opening and closing of the compartment door. In the event that the compartment door is subjected to a force greater than a predetermined value while in the closed position, the guide member will be forced through the channel and locked into the retaining section, thereby retaining the door in its closed position.

G-force push-push latch

A cross car structural support beam assembly is mounted between a pair of vehicle door pillars of a structural body of an automobile having an integrally formed male connecting snorkel projection for interfacing with air feeder tubes extending from ducts in the instrument panel assembly. The cross car beam assembly includes first and second plastic panels having at least one flow passage defined therebetween and at least one opening in the panels in fluid communication with the air flow passage. A third panel is mounted to the second panel to complete the cross car beam assembly and includes at least one tubular male connecting projection integrally formed into the outer surface of the third panel in fluid communication with the at least one air flow passage. The tubular male connecting projection interconnects with a tubular female connecting portion of an air feeder tube to supply air to a passenger compartment through ducts in an instrument panel assembly.

Plastic cross beam assembly for a vehicle having integrally formed duct connectors

A steering column support bracket for a vehicle that is attached to HVAC ducts extending transversely across the vehicle that are located between the dashboard and the front of dashboard cowl. The steering column support bracket is attached to the hinge pillar, the front of dashboard cowl and is connected by a brace to the compartment pan of the vehicle. Several embodiments of steering column support brackets are disclosed that are designed to engage the HVAC ducts. The steering column support bracket may be formed as a C-shaped structure, an under duct configuration, or in a clam shell structure. In addition to supporting the steering column of the vehicle, the steering column support bracket may support brake switches, a power steering motor, and a cruise control system.
