A management system for a multi-cell rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) is capable of wirelessly communicating with an unsecured third-party device. The management system includes a system controller that is in communication with cell monitoring units that are arranged to individually monitor the battery cells. Each cell monitoring unit includes a cell controller that is in communication with a sensor that is arranged to determine a parameter of a respective one of the battery cells of the RESS. Each of the cell controllers is configured to execute a secure wireless communication protocol, and is also configured to execute an open wireless communication protocol. The open wireless communication protocol is activated to enable non-proprietary wireless communication to a proximal third-party device in response to a trigger event.

System and method for a multi-cell rechargeable energy storage device

A monitor and control system and a method of monitoring and controlling an onboard system of an assembly includes one or more of a plurality of sensors detects whether an event occurred in the onboard system. The sensors communicate with a master controller when the master controller is in a nominal mode in which the master controller is powered on to actively monitor the sensors, and includes a sleep mode in which the master controller is powered off and does not monitor the sensors when in the sleep mode. An agent controller monitors the sensors when the master controller is in the sleep mode. One or more of the sensors signal the agent controller that the event has occurred. The agent controller signals the master controller to awaken from the sleep mode in response to the one or more of the sensors signaling the agent controller of the event.

Method of monitoring and controlling an onboard system and a monitor and control system

A system in a vehicle for detecting misconfigured sensors. The system comprises a plurality of remote sensor modules, each of the remote sensor modules having a known location within a geometrically constrained area of the vehicle, each of the remote sensor modules comprising a wireless transceiver. The system also includes a manager module comprising a wireless transceiver for communicating wirelessly with each of the remote sensor modules. The manager module directs each of the plurality of remote sensor modules to determine a radio frequency (RF) measurement value associated with each of the other remote sensor modules and to report the RF measurement values back to the manager module. The manager module uses the reported RF measurement values to identify an out-of-position remote sensor module.
