A data storage system operates a file system as a thinly provisioned file system having a host-visible virtual space and a smaller allocated space of underlying physical storage from a pool. The file system applies formatting to the allocated space and utilizes formatted allocated space for storing host files. The file system receives a file I/O request that requires increasing the allocated space of the file system, and in response (1) obtains an extent of physical storage from the pool and adds it to the file system as added allocated space, and (2) formats an initial portion of the added allocated space and satisfies the file I/O request using the formatted initial portion. Over a subsequent period the file system incrementally formats additional portions of the added allocated space and satisfies subsequent file I/O requests from the added portions.

A semiconductor device includes a bottom substrate, a sacrificial layer on the bottom substrate and including a first opening exposing a first portion of the bottom substrate and a second opening exposing a second portion of the bottom substrate, a top substrate on the sacrificial layer and on the second opening forming a cavity, a first metal layer on the top substrate and/or on the exposed first portion of the bottom substrate, an adhesive layer on the first metal layer, and a second metal layer on the adhesive layer defining one or more pads. The pad includes a stack-layered structure of a first metal layer on the bottom substrate, an adhesive layer on the first metal layer, and a second metal layer on the adhesive layer. The thus formed structure reduces the pad contact resistance.

Low contact resistance semiconductor structure and method for manufacturing the same

A method for fabricating an MEMS device includes providing a first substrate with a central region and a peripheral region, and forming a plurality of first openings in the peripheral region and a plurality of third openings in the central region by etching the first substrate from a front side. The depth of the first openings is larger than the depth of the third openings. The method further includes forming a photosensitive layer on the surfaces of the first openings and the third openings, bonding a second substrate to the front side of the first substrate, and forming a trench by etching the first substrate from a back side using a patterned mask layer as an etch mask. The trench has a concave bottom surface and exposes a portion of the photosensitive layer formed on the bottom surfaces of the first openings and the third openings.

An electromechanical device may include a first substrate, a second substrate, a connector, and a protector. The connector may be formed of a first dielectric material and may be positioned between the first substrate and the second substrate. A first side of the connector may directly contact the first substrate. The protector may be formed of a second dielectric material and may directly contact a second side of the connector.

A method of fabricating a micro electrical-mechanical system (MEMS) microphone on a substrate includes forming a sacrificial layer on a front surface of the substrate, forming a membrane within the sacrificial layer, forming a fixed plate on the sacrificial layer at a location corresponding to a location of the membrane, performing a laser cutting on the back surface of the substrate at a location corresponding to an edge region of the fixed plate until a surface of the sacrificial layer is expose to form an opening, forming a patterned photoresist layer on the back surface exposing a region within the boundary of the opening, removing a portion of the back surface using the patterned photoresist layer as a mask to form a cavity, and removing a portion of the sacrificial layer above and below the membrane to form an air gap between the membrane and the fixed plate.

Method of manufacturing a MEMS microphone

A method for forming a MEMS device is provided. The method includes providing a first wafer and a second wafer. The first wafer has a trench on a top surface of the first wafer and a fixed electrode on the bottom of the trench, and the second wafer has a polishing stop layer, a sacrificial layer, and a movable electrode. The method also includes bonding the first wafer and the second wafer with the top surface of the first wafer facing the top surface of the second wafer and the movable electrode on the second wafer located above the trench on the first wafer; removing the second wafer by polishing the second wafer from a backside of the second wafer until reaching the polishing stop layer; and releasing the movable electrode by removing a portion of the polishing stop layer and the sacrificial layer to form the MEMS device.

Semiconductor structures and fabrication method thereof

A method to display a representation of multimedia content that includes a progress bar. The method includes shortening a portion of the multimedia content having a start time and an end time from an original length to a shortened length based on a received indication and modifying the progress bar to represent the shortened portion of the multimedia content. The original length of the portion is represented by a curve adjacent to the progress bar, where a first end of the curve is adjacent to the progress bar at a location indicating the start time, and where a second end of the curve is adjacent to the progress bar at a location indicating the end time, and the shortened length of the portion is represented by a distance on the progress bar between the location indicating the start time and the location indicating the end time.

In an approach for managing a user interface a computer identifies a first user that is utilizing the user interface. The computer determines the identified first user is utilizing an aiming tool. The computer receives an input, the input including at least: an orientation of the aiming tool, wherein the orientation includes at least one of: a direction and a force to be applied upon release of the aiming tool. The computer calculates a trajectory from the aiming tool to a first location on the user interface based on the received input.
