Techniques are provided for positioning bandwidth limited user equipment (UE). In an example method for providing a positioning reference signal (PRS) to a bandwidth limited user equipment includes generating a PRS comprising a plurality of symbols occupying a frequency range in a first slot of a radio frame, the PRS including a first set of the plurality of symbols occupying a first portion of the frequency range, a second set of the plurality of symbols occupying a second portion of the frequency range, and transmitting the PRS to the bandwidth limited user equipment.

Aspects of the disclosure relate to user equipment (UE)-assisted beam broadening in a wireless communication system configured to employ beamforming. A UE may determine downlink channel characteristics by monitoring for, receiving, and measuring a suitable downlink reference signal. Based on the channel characteristics the UE may select a wide beam corresponding to a set of narrow beams. The UE may then transmit a report identifying the selected wide beam by indicating a direction of the selected wide beam and an angular width of the selected wide beam. In one aspect, if a user equipment (UE) is configured to transmit data and CSI to a base station periodically, the UE may transmit the CSI when the UE has data to transmit to the base station. In particular, the UE may transmit data and a CSI report during a transmission opportunity if the UE has data to transmit in the transmission opportunity. Otherwise, the UE may suppress transmission of the CSI report. In another aspect, a UE may be configured to transmit CSI to a base station when downlink channel conditions change. A wireless device (e.g., a base station) may transmit, to a user equipment (UE), an indication of a field type of a field between the UE and the wireless device. The indication of the field type may include one or more bits indicating the field type, a measure indicating a likelihood that the field type includes a first field type as compared to a second field type, an indication that the first type is the same as a second field type configured at the UE, or any combination thereof. The UE may select between a first set of beam weight vectors and a second set of beam weight vectors based on the field type. The UE may communicate, with the base station, a reference signal using a beam generated using a first beam weight vector from the selected set.
