Embodiments are disclosed that provide space reclamation in immutable deduplication systems, and can include selecting a unit of data of a backup image, determining whether a duplicate unit of data is stored in an existing data storage construct (the duplicate unit of data is a duplicate of the unit of data and the existing data storage construct is stored in immutable storage), and in response to a determination that the duplicate unit of data exists in the existing data storage construct, determining whether the existing data storage construct is designated as being available to be referenced, in response to the existing data storage construct being designated as being available to be referenced, updating a reference to the duplicate unit of data, and in response to the existing data storage construct being designated as being unavailable to be referenced, storing the unit of data in a new data storage construct.

Methods and systems for space reclamation in immutable deduplication systems

Methods, computer program products, computer systems, and the like are disclosed that provide for scalable deduplication. Such methods, computer program products, and computer systems can include, in response to receiving a request to perform a lookup operation, performing the lookup operation and, in response to the signature not being found, forwarding the request to a remote node. Further, in response to receiving an indication that the signature was not found at the remote node, processing the subunit of data as a unique subunit of data.

Methods and systems for scalable deduplication

Methods, computer program products, computer systems, and the like are disclosed that provide for scalable deduplication in an efficient and effective manner. For example, such methods, computer program products, and computer systems can include receiving a data object at an assigned node, determining whether the data object includes a sub-data object, and processing the sub-data object. The assigned node is a node of a plurality of nodes of a cluster, where the data object includes a data segment, and a signature. The signature is generated based, at least in part, on data of the data segment. The processing includes sending the sub-data object to a remote node. The remote node is another node of the plurality of nodes of the cluster.

Disclosed herein are methods, systems, and processes to perform dual-mode deduplication based on backup history. A fingerprint of a data segment of a data stream is calculated and a determination is made as to whether the fingerprint of the data segment matches a corresponding fingerprint in a cache. If the fingerprint matches the corresponding fingerprint, another fingerprint of a subsequent data segment of the data stream is calculated. If the fingerprint does not match the corresponding fingerprint, a segment boundary of the data stream is calculated based on a hash value, a determination is made that a new fingerprint calculated based on the segment boundary does not match the corresponding fingerprint, segment boundaries and new fingerprints are calculated, and a determination is made that a first fingerprint matches another corresponding fingerprint in the cache.

Dual-mode deduplication based on backup history

The disclosed computer-implemented method for repairing corrupted data segments may include (1) detecting a corrupted data segment in a backup stored in a data storage system, (2) identifying at least one additional backup stored in the data storage system that exceeds a predetermined threshold for probability of comprising an uncorrupted version of the corrupted data segment, (3) matching at least a portion of a data segment in the additional backup with at least a portion of a data segment adjacent to the corrupted data segment in the backup, (4) locating, at least in part by examining data adjacent to the matched data segment in the additional backup, the uncorrupted version of the corrupted data segment, and (5) repairing the corrupted data segment in the backup by using the uncorrupted version of the corrupted data segment located in the additional backup. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Systems and methods for repairing corrupted data segments

A computer-implemented method for accelerating backup operations may include (1) identifying a volume of data that may be stored by a computing system attached to a network and that may be designated for a backup to a deduplicated data store, (2) monitoring traffic on the network for at least one data object destined for the volume of data, (3) copying the data object from the traffic on the network and (4) seeding the deduplicated data store with the data object before the backup to the deduplicated data store. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Systems and methods for accelerating backup operations

The present disclosure provides for implementing a two-level fingerprint caching scheme for a client cache and a server cache. The client cache hit ratio can be improved by pre-populating the client cache with fingerprints that are relevant to the client. Relevant fingerprints include fingerprints used during a recent time period (e.g., fingerprints of segments that are included in the last full backup image and any following incremental backup images created for the client after the last full backup image), and thus are referred to as fingerprints with good temporal locality. Relevant fingerprints also include fingerprints associated with a storage container that has good spatial locality, and thus are referred to as fingerprints with good spatial locality. A pre-set threshold established for the client cache (e.g., threshold Tc) is used to determine whether a storage container (and thus fingerprints associated with the storage container) has good spatial locality.

Locality aware, two-level fingerprint caching

The disclosed computer-implemented method for updating applications may include (1) identifying each version of an application, (2) determining possible upgrade paths to upgrade the application from an initial version of the application to a desired version of the application by, for each version of the application (a) creating a connection between the version and each subsequent version to which the version can be upgraded and (b) weighting each connection with a success rate that indicates the probability that the version will be successfully upgraded to the subsequent version, and (3) identifying, from among the possible upgrade paths, an optimal upgrade path for upgrading the application from the initial version to the desired version based on an analysis of both the combined weight and the combined length of the connections within each possible upgrade path. Systems and methods for updating applications

A method for managing deduplication reference data may include (1) identifying multiple of data containers configured to store a plurality of deduplicated data segments that are referenced by multiple data objects within a deduplicated data system, (2) maintaining multiple reference databases including (i) a first reference database corresponding to a first subset of the data containers and (ii) a second reference database corresponding to a second subset of the data containers, the second subset differing from the first subset, (3) determining that a data object references at least one segment within a first data container within the first subset but does not reference any data segment within a second data container within the second subset and (4) updating the first reference database with information specifying that the data object references at least one data segment within at least one data container within the first subset of data containers.
