An electrical connector () is used for electrically connecting a ball grid array (BGA) central processing unit (CPU) () with a printed circuit board (PCB). The connector includes a generally rectangular insulative housing () and a number of terminals () received in the housing. Each of the terminals includes a connecting portion (), a solder pad () extending from a bottom end of the connecting portion, and a cantilever () extending aslant from a top end of the connecting portion. The cantilever has a concave portion () near a free end thereof. When the CPU with a multiplicity of solder balls is attached onto the connector, the concave portions of the terminals cover bottom portions of the solder balls. Therefore, the terminals of the connector electrically connect with the solder balls of the CPU steadily, and a reliable connection between the CPU and the PCB is established.

Electrical connector

A socket connector for carrying an integrated circuit package includes an insulative housing, a stiffener surrounding the housing, a load plate pivotably assembled with one end of the stiffener and a load lever pivotably attached to the other end of the stiffener. The load plate defines a pair of pressing portions. Each of the pressing portions defines a wider part and a narrower part. During the rotation process of the load plate, the wider part firstly presses a pressing point of the IC package. A critical point, on which the wider part firstly presses, is ascertained that a distance from the critical point to a center of the IC package is approximately 5/24 of the entire length along the same direction. The pressing point is within a range from the critical point to the center of the IC package.

Socket connector for carrying integrated circuit package

A tool ( ) comprises a substantially rectangular base ( ) defining a pair of chambers ( ) in two adjacent sides thereof, and a pair of actuation member ( ) deposed in the chamber respectively. Each actuation member comprises a bridging portion ( ) spanning across the chamber and connecting with the base, a vertical driving portion ( ) perpendicularly crossing the bridging portion, a connecting portion ( ) connecting a junction of the bridging portion and driving portion with a bottom of the base, and an operating portion ( ) adjoining an outside of the driving portion. Tool for attaching integrated circuit package to electrical connector

A socket connector includes a housing positioned on a circuit board and movably supporting a cover. Cells are defined in the housing for retaining dual-beam terminals. The cover carries a central processing unit module having pin legs extending through holes defined in the cover and projecting into the cells of the housing. The cover is movable in a moving direction to bring the pin legs into engagement with the terminals. Each terminal includes a base section retained in each cell and a tail extending and beyond the housing for being soldered to the circuit board. Two beams extend from the base section, substantially opposite to the tail. Each beam forms a spring arm. The spring arms are opposite to and spaced from each other for engaging the corresponding pin leg therebetween. The beams are symmetric with respect to an imaginary plane that is normal to the base section and coincident with the moving direction. Each beam has a major surface angularly offset from the imaginary plane and thus forming a first included angle with the imaginary plane. The major surface also forms a second included angle with the base section. The included angles are smaller than 90 degrees and greater than 0 degree. Preferably, the included angles are 45 degrees. The angularly offset configuration of the beams allows easy adjustment of the space between the spring arms and thus adjustment of the performance parameters of the terminals.
