A catheter assembly including a medical catheter and an internal bolster. In a preferred embodiment, the catheter is an elongated, tubular structure preferably made of a flexible, biocompatible material. The catheter is shaped to include a generally cylindrical wall terminating in a first end and in a second end, the wall coaxially surrounding and defining a longitudinal bore preferably used to convey fluids, such as food and/or medications, to a patient in need thereof. The internal bolster is an elongated, semi-tubular structure preferably made of a flexible, biocompatible material. The bolster is resiliently and reversibly transformable between a generally planar shape, when at rest, and a straightened shape, when forcibly unfurled. The bolster has an inner end and an outer end, the inner end being generally centrally located. The inner end of the bolster is insert-molded around the first end of the catheter, with the catheter and the bolster being oriented relative to one another so that the longitudinal axis of the catheter extends generally perpendicularly to the plane of the bolster in its coiled state, with the open, semi-tubular structure of the bolster facing away from the catheter.

The first and second end effectors include the features of at least one element within the inner surface either of the first and second end effectors for aiding in the capture and retention of a targeted tissue sample.

Biopsy forceps assemblies

A method for percutaneously implanting a medical catheter, such as a gastrostomy feeding tube, and a medical catheter implanting assembly. In one embodiment, the implanting assembly includes a gastrostomy feeding tube, an inner sheath and an outer sheath. The feeding tube has an internal bolster integrally formed at its distal end. The inner sheath includes a bore extending distally from its proximal end to a point prior to its distal end and a transverse window communicating with the bore. The outer sheath includes a proximal end, a distal end and a longitudinal bore. The outer sheath is inserted over the inner sheath, and the feeding tube is inserted into the inner sheath, with the internal bolster being folded and tucked into the window and retained therein by the outer sheath. Movement of the outer sheath relative to the inner sheath to expose the window allows the bolster to decompress.

Method for percutaneously implanting a medical catheter and medical catheter implanting assembly

A medical catheter assembly including a multi-piece connector. In one embodiment, the medical catheter assembly is a PEG implanting assembly comprising a tubular dilator and a silicone feeding tube having an internal bolster at its rear end. The assembly also comprises a multi-piece connector comprising an inner ring, a fitting and an outer ring. The inner ring has an outer diameter greater than the inner diameter of the feeding tube and is coaxially disposed within the feeding tube by a friction-fit. The fitting comprises a front portion, an intermediate portion and a rear portion, the intermediate portion including a shoulder having an outer diameter greater than the inner diameter of the feeding tube. The front portion of the fitting is inserted through the rear end of the dilator and is secured to the dilator by a plurality of barbs. The shoulder and the rear portion of the fitting are inserted into the feeding tube through its rear end, with the rear portion of the fitting being inserted into the inner ring and secured thereto by mating threads. The outer ring is inserted over the feeding tube and is positioned between the shoulder and the inner ring, the outer ring being sized to securely retain the feeding tube between the outer ring and the inner ring and between the outer ring and the shoulder.

A catheter assembly including an internal bolster. According to one embodiment, the catheter assembly includes a medical catheter preferably made of extruded silicone rubber. The catheter is shaped to include a cylindrical wall defining a primary longitudinal bore. A plurality of secondary longitudinal bores is provided in the cylindrical wall, the secondary bores being evenly spaced around the primary bore. The assembly also includes a plurality of identical resilient members collectively forming an anchor at a first end of the catheter. Each resilient member comprises a resilient wire and a protective jacket. Each wire is made of a shape-memory material and is reversibly transformable between a spiral shape, when at rest, and a straightened shape, when forcibly unfurled. One end of each wire is disposed within a secondary bore of the catheter, with the remainder of each wire extending out from the catheter. Each jacket is preferably made of silicone rubber and encapsulates all of the length of its wire, except for the small portion of the wire inserted into the bore.
