Molded-in-color thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) compositions useful for making automotive components, such as injection molded parts, as well as other articles of manufacture are described. The molded-in-color composition has a ΔE* value≤2.0 (compared to a painted color master), a gloss measured at 60° from about 76 to about 90 GU, a density ranging from about 0.9 to about 0.97 g/cm, a melt mass flow rate from about 15 to about 40 g/10 min (ASTM D 1238, 230° C./2.16 kg), a flexural modulus between about 600 to about 2000 MPa, and an as-molded shrinkage between about 0.6% and about 1.4%. The compositions can be used to prepare molded-in-color components that can undergo additional clear coating steps as required by the automotive application. The clear coated molded-in-color components have a gloss measured at 20° from about 85 to about 95 GU and a gloss retention after mar between about 85% and about 93%.

Automotive molded-in-color thermoplastic polyolefin with clear coating for paint replacement and high gloss applications

The present disclosure generally relates to carbon fiber reinforced polyolefin compositions, which may have a relatively low density. The compositions may include a thermoplastic olefin, a filler component, a compatibilizer, and/or an additive package. In some embodiments, the filler component includes a plurality of carbon fibers. In addition, articles of manufacture and methods of making a carbon fiber reinforced polyolefin composition are provided.

Carbon fiber reinforced polyolefin compositions and methods

Low density polyolefin compositions with improved stiffness, impact balance, and high dimensional stability are described. These compositions are useful for making automotive components, such as injection molded parts, as well as other articles of manufacture. The compositions comprise (a) a polyolefin comprising polypropylene, a propylene-ethylene block copolymer, or combinations thereof, wherein the polyolefin blend is present in an amount ranging from about 55 wt. % to about 72 wt. %; (b) a first elastomer and a second elastomer that are not the same, wherein the combined weight percent of components (b) ranges from about 18 wt. % to about 33 wt. %; (c) a filler present in an amount ranging from about 6 wt. % to about 12 wt. %; and (d) an additive package present in an amount ranging from about 0.5 wt. % to about 5 wt. %, all wt. % are based on the total weight of the composition.

Low density polyolefin resins with stiffness, impact balance, and high dimensional stability

The present disclosure provides a filled composition made from and/or containing (A) a first polymer composition made from and/or containing (i) a heterophasic polypropylene copolymer and (ii) a polypropylene blend, and (B) a biofiller composition made from and/or containing a cellulose-based biofiller. The filled composition can additionally be made with and/or contain an elastomeric ethylene copolymer composition. Optionally, the filled composition can further be made with and/or contains a grafted polyolefin composition. The filled composition is useful in making automotive components.

Filled polypropylene compositions and related automotive components

The present disclosure generally relates to low density compositions useful for making automotive components, such as molded parts, as well as other articles of manufacture; such compositions comprise (a) a polyolefin comprising polypropylene, a propylene-ethylene block copolymer, or combinations thereof, wherein the polyolefin blend is present in an amount ranging from about 53 wt. % to about 65 wt. %, based on a total weight of the composition; (b) a first elastomer, a second elastomer, and an impact-modifying compatibilizer, wherein the combined weight percent of components (b) ranges from about 27 wt. % to about 32 wt. %, based on the total weight of the composition; (c) a filler present in an amount ranging from about 5 wt. % to about 12 wt. %, based on the total weight of the composition; and (d) an additive package present in an amount ranging from about 0.5 wt. % to about 5 wt. %.
