A controller, during charging of a traction battery by a remote charger, and responsive to a difference between a requested charge current and a current supplied by the remote charger exceeding a first threshold value for a predefined period of time, increases a requested charge voltage to a limit value. The controller further, responsive to a voltage across a capacitor and a voltage across the traction battery being same, and a voltage of the remote charger and the limit value being same, commands the remote charger to discontinue the charging.

Control and diagnosis of charging system for a vehicle

A vehicle charging system includes a charger configured to adjust an output voltage to achieve a voltage request and output a measured output voltage. The vehicle charging system further includes a controller programmed to measure a terminal voltage of a traction battery being charged and receive the measured output voltage from the charger. The controller is further programmed to output the voltage request as a sum of a full charge voltage and an estimated voltage measurement error between the measured output voltage and the terminal voltage.

This disclosure describes vehicle systems and methods for controlling charging of an auxiliary (i.e., low voltage) battery of an electrified vehicle. Exemplary charging methods may dynamically adjust a low voltage setpoint of a power converter during the low voltage support. The proposed systems and methods therefore achieve constrained low voltage support by controlling the power drawn by the power converter at an appropriate level during the low voltage support.

Systems and methods for controlling charging of electrified vehicle auxiliary batteries

A hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and method of operation includes a thermal management system (TMS) that maintains optimal battery temperature operating ranges. The TMS includes a controller, heater, pump, and valves that control a flow rate of a convective fluid about the battery and other components. The TMS responds to battery temperature and differential signals, converting them into pump speed and heater signals utilizing a fuzzy logic multidimensional membership function (MF) that improves performance while reducing energy consumption by generating real-time, smoothed pulse width modulated (PWM) pump speed and heater signals. The MF capability requires less processing power than prior systems, which in turn enables improved response time to battery thermal and temperature rate changes during HEV operation. The MF utilizes embedded temperature and differential MFs that generate respective, real-time, tuned signal conversion factors, without the need for calibration look-up tables, to generate the PWM pump and heater control signals.
