Methods and systems are provided for a transportation vehicle. One method includes determining current available bandwidth rate based on network traffic generated by a plurality of devices and a plurality of traffic types on a transportation vehicle; utilizing a hierarchical tree structure to modify quality of service (QoS) that is indicated by a specific bandwidth rate associated with different priority levels, where each priority level is associated with one of the plurality of devices and the plurality of traffic types; and storing the modified QoS for the different priority levels at the hierarchical tree structure for a next update of the QoS when the current available bandwidth rate changes.

Methods and systems for dynamically managing quality of service on transportation vehicles

A system for identifying a wireless security threat on a vehicle. The system includes a broadband controller including a data processor and memory in which the broadband controller provides a network within the vehicle. The system includes a vehicle WAP in communication with the broadband controller in which the WAP broadcasts an SSID for use by a PED to establish a wireless communication link and transmit and receive data wirelessly over the network via the WAP. An SSID scanner periodically scans for SSIDs broadcast in the vehicle in which SSIDs detected during scans are communicated to the broadband controller. For a detected SSID corresponding to the vehicles WAP SSID, logic executed by the data processor compares the BSSID of the vehicle WAP with the BSSID from the detected SSID and if the BSSIDs do not match, the logic identifies a security threat.

Identifying and disabling a rogue access point in a public wireless environment

One method includes receiving a network packet at a network interface device of an information system of a transportation vehicle; identifying public announcement audio in a payload of the network packet by the network interface device; extracting the public announcement audio from the payload of the network packet by the network interface device; transferring the public announcement audio to an audio system by the network interface device; and playing the public announcement audio by the audio system.

One method includes collecting by a processor connection information for a plurality of user devices accessing a wireless network on a transportation vehicle; determining by the processor available bandwidth for the plurality of user devices depending on a connection type; monitoring currently used bandwidth by the plurality of user devices; receiving a request from a user device to access content via the wireless connection; determining by the processor additional bandwidth for accessing the content by the user device; and rejecting the request for accessing the content when the additional bandwidth and the currently used bandwidth equals or exceeds the available bandwidth for the plurality of user devices.

Methods and systems for managing bandwidth for user devices on a transportation vehicle

Methods and systems for a transportation vehicle are provided. For example, one method includes capturing a video for a public announcement at a transportation vehicle by an authorized device, where metadata of the video identifies the video for public announcement; transmitting the video to a distribution device that recognizes the video as being for public announcement; pausing distribution of any other video; selecting the video for public announcement; and distributing the video for public announcement to user devices at the transportation vehicle.
