A storage phosphor panel can include an extruded inorganic storage phosphor layer including a thermoplastic polyolefin and an inorganic storage phosphor material, where the extruded inorganic storage phosphor panel has a DQE comparable to that of a traditional extruded inorganic solvent coated inorganic storage phosphor screen. Also disclosed is an inorganic storage phosphor detection system including an extruded inorganic storage phosphor panel that can include an extruded inorganic storage phosphor layer including a thermoplastic olefin and an inorganic storage phosphor material; and photodetector(s) coupled to the extruded inorganic storage phosphor panel to detect photons generated from the extruded inorganic storage phosphor panel. Further disclosed is a method of making an extruded inorganic storage phosphor panel that can include providing thermoplastic particles including at least one thermoplastic polyolefin and an inorganic storage phosphor material; and melt extruding the thermoplastic particles to form an extruded inorganic storage phosphor layer.

A transparent scintillator panel including an extruded scintillation layer comprising a thermoplastic polyolefin and a scintillator material, wherein the transparent scintillator panel has an intrinsic MTF at least 5% greater than the iH50 of a solvent-coated DRZ+ screen. Also disclosed is a scintillation detection system including a transparent scintillator panel comprising an extruded scintillation layer comprising a thermoplastic olefin and a scintillator material; and at least one photodetector coupled to the transparent scintillator panel, wherein at least one photodetector is configured to detect photons generated from the transparent scintillator panel. Further disclosed is a method of making a transparent scintillator panel including providing thermoplastic particles comprising at least one thermoplastic polyolefin and a scintillator material; and melt extruding the thermoplastic particles to form an extruded scintillation layer.

Patterned radiation-sensing thermoplastic composite panels

A method for mapping radiological image data from a source imaging system to a target imaging system obtains sensitometric response data for both the source and the target imaging systems and identifies an anchor point that relates a specified source signal value to a specified target signal value. A transform is applied to map a range of source signal values to a corresponding range of target signal values, wherein the transform is defined according to the sensitometric response data obtained for both the source and the target imaging systems and according to the identified anchor point.

A method and system for determining the bone mineral density of a body extremity. An image of a body extremity is acquired using a mammography x-ray system whereby a bone mineral density can be performed on the image. The system for determining the bone mineral density of a body extremity includes: a support for supporting the body extremity; a detector for capturing an image of the body extremity; and an x-ray source adapted to project an x-ray beam through the body extremity toward the detector, the x-ray source having a voltage of no more than about 45 kVp and having a target/filter combination of rhodium/rhodium, molybdenum/molybdenum, molybdenum/rhodium, or tungsten/rhodium.

Bone mineral density assessment using mammography system

A method and system for determining the bone mineral density of a body extremity. An image of a body extremity is acquired using a mammography x-ray system whereby a bone mineral density can be performed on the image. The system for determining the bone mineral density of a body extremity includes: a support for supporting the body extremity; a detector for capturing an image of the body extremity; and an x-ray source adapted to project an x-ray beam through the body extremity toward the detector, the x-ray source having a voltage of no more than about 45 kVp and having a target/filter combination of rhodium/rhodium, molybdenum/molybdenum, molybdenum/rhodium, or tungsten/rhodium. An attenuation filter separate from the target/filter combination may be provided between the source and the body extremity, between the body extremity and the detector, or both.

A method for calibrating a digital X-ray detector executed at least in part by a control logic processor. A radiation sensor is disposed along the optical path that extends between a radiation emitter and the digital X-ray detector. A set of radiation beam conditions for X-ray generation is selected and digital image values from the digital X-ray detector are obtained in one or more iterations of providing a threshold signal to radiation control logic, the threshold signal corresponding to a predetermined exposure level, exposing both the digital X-ray detector and the radiation sensor to radiation and terminating the exposure according to a comparison of the threshold signal with a signal from the radiation sensor that indicates an accumulated radiation level, then obtaining the digital image values from the digital X-ray detector. One or more sets of calibration values are generated according to the obtained digital image values.
