In an FSC mode LCD, a controller operates in response to an external adjustment, and a DC/DC converter converts a battery voltage into a driving voltage under control of the controller. A color LED backlight includes first, second and third color LED arrays connected in parallel, which are operated by the driving voltage. An FSC generator generates first, second and third color PWM signals according to an internal sawtooth voltage and a dimming voltage. A 3-channel current source generates first, second and third driving currents under control of the controller, and on/off switches paths of the first, second and third driving currents flowing through the first, second and third color LED arrays according to the first, second and third color PWM signals generated from the FSC generator, thereby adjusting luminance of the first, second and third color LED arrays of the color LED backlight.

An LCD backlight inverter includes a soft starter for generating a soft-start reference voltage gradually increasing as the driving power begins to be supplied. The LCD backlight inverter also includes a first error detector for receiving a first feedback voltage indicating the magnitude of driving current of the lamp and for comparing a smaller value out of a predetermined first reference voltage and the soft-start reference voltage with the first feedback voltage to generate a first error signal corresponding to the difference between the smaller value and the soft-start reference voltage. The LCD backlight inverter further includes a pulse width modulation comparator for comparing the first error signal and a triangle wave oscillation signal to output the pulse width modulation control signal with a predetermined duty ratio. The LCD backlight inverter prevents application of over-current and over-voltage to the LCD backlight to prolong the lifetime of the backlight.

There is a provided a dual mode clock generator that is applicable to a direct current-direct current converter of a power supply. The dual mode clock generator includes a frequency controller for controlling generation of charge and discharge; a current source unit for generating a charge, and generating a charge; a capacitor for charging a voltage according to the charge current generated by the current source unit; an oscillation controller for controlling switch-on or switch-off to charge and discharge the capacitor; a switch for controlling the charging and discharging of the capacitor through the ON or OFF control of the oscillation controller; and a current sink unit for generating a discharge current according to the second current in the first operation mode and generating a discharge current according to the third current and the fourth current in the second operation mode.

Dual mode clock generator

In a driving circuit for an LCD backlight, a fundamental wave generator generates a triangle wave signal and a square wave signal in accordance with time constant of a time constant circuit including a time constant capacitor. A PWM comparator compares a difference signal between a feedback voltage and a preset reference voltage with the triangle wave signal to generate a PWM signal in response to the comparison result. A signal synchronizer sets a connection node between the time constant capacitor and the fundamental wave generator and an output terminal of the square wave signal in accordance with a power level of the LCD backlight. Also, a driving signal generator generates a driving signal in response to the square wave signal from the fundamental wave generator and the PWM signal from the PWM comparator. The driving circuit enables PWM controlling integrated circuits to be synchronized together.

A control circuit of a DC-DC converter is provided. A mode selection section selects an Active Clamp Forward (ACF) or a Logic Link Control (LLC) mode. A soft start section generates a soft start signal in the ACF and LLC modes. A PWM comparison section compares a current detection signal with a feedback signal, a feedback reference signal and the soft start signal in the ACF mode, and generates a PWM signal based on a comparison result. A selection section selects the PWM signal of the PWM comparison section in the ACF mode. A clock generation section generates a clock signal having a fixed frequency in the ACF mode, and generates a clock signal having a frequency based on an operating current and the soft start signal in the LLC mode. A latch section maintains the PWM signal in response to the clock signal in the ACF mode and maintains the clock signal in the LLC mode.

A voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) for generating a clock of a 50% duty includes a VCO unit and a duty correction unit. The VCO unit generates first and second signals having a 180&#xb0; phase difference to each other with an oscillation frequency according to a control voltage to output the first and second signals through first and second oscillation output terminals. The duty correction unit generates a clock signal of a 50% duty according to the first and second signals through the first and second oscillation terminals.

The invention relates to a driving apparatus for a CCFL capable of providing a high output voltage necessary for an open lamp and thereby satisfying a voltage standard required to drive the lamp. In the driving apparatus, an inverter made of a switching circuit of a half-bridge structure is used to generate current for driving the lamp. If the lamp is open, a tuning capacitor current of an oscillator, which provides a reference clock for driving a switch of the inverter is incremented so that a clock frequency which is a basis for a switching speed of the inverter is boosted. Disclosed is a circuit for compensating for an offset voltage of a monitoring photodiode. After the offset voltage is measured in a photodiode test, current source and offset resistors are added according to the measured resistances, thereby compensating for the offset voltage.
