A porous tube or conduit formed in a series of loops coiled around a center line, the series of loops having a first loop, the first loop having a first extension configured with a first open end in fluid communication with the first loop, the series of loops having an end loop, the end loop having a second extension configured with a second open end in fluid communication with the end loop, wherein the first open end and the second open end are positioned proximate the center line and the first loop, and, thus, functions to provide a more efficient filter having less plugging or clogging of the filtration membrane, reduced the need for self-cleaning of the porous tube, minimize the effects of pressure drop across a porous tube, installed inside a tank, accommodating shipping, handling, and storage, simplified system arrangement, thereby provide a more efficient filtration device, system, process.

Unhoused filtration device and methods of use

The invention discloses an apparatus for filtration of water from hydrocarbons comprised of a fresh-feed inlet, a first dead end filter, that is hydrophobic, a second sweeping-flow filter, that is hydrophobic, a common housing containing both the first and second filters, a system for the recirculation of the retentate, a chamber for water settling, and an outlet for clean fuel permeate. This invention takes advantage of the properties of the functional groups of a surfactant, by using the surfactant to allow a hydrophobic medium to attract water, attach the water molecules to the hydrophobic medium, and then allow for agglomeration of the water molecules, which finally become large enough to detach and be swept away by the sweeping-flow. This invention can thus be used to remove high concentrations of water, up to 5%, in hydrocarbons, while allowing a high flow rate by preventing blockage of the final filter by water.

Method and apparatus for separating emulsified water from hydrocarbons

Method and apparatus for separating emulsified water from fuel

A filter unit includes a cross-flow filtration assembly. The cross-flow filtration assembly includes an elongate cylindrical filter housing having an interior cylindrical wall defining an elongate filter cavity. The filtration assembly also includes a tangential feed inlet in fluid communication with the filter cavity extending substantially tangential to the interior cylindrical wall and an opposed retentate outlet port in fluid communication with the filter cavity. An elongate cylindrical filter cartridge supported in the filter housing includes an elongate porous cylindrical filter wall having an elongate cylindrical outer filter surface and an elongate inner filter surface defining a permeate passageway. One end of the filter cartridge defines a permeate outlet port in fluid communication with the permeate passageway and the opposite end of the cartridge is closed by a non-porous filter cap. A spiral fluid guide spans between the interior cylindrical wall of the filter housing and the outer filter surface of the cartridge to define a spiral fluid passageway extending between the feed inlet and retentate outlet ports. The spiral fluid passageway may be of dimension to impart secondary flow currents, particularly Dean-Flow currents, to fluid flowing therethrough to prevent particulate build-up on the filter media so as to better maintain permeate flow rate from the filter.
