A mobile device may be configured to perform concurrent Satellite Positioning System (SPS) operation and wireless communications when uplink signals transmitted by the mobile device interferes with the reception of SPS signals in one or more frequency bands. The mobile device may determine if the SPS receiver has already acquired SPS signals and is in a tracking state. If the SPS receiver is not in a tracking state, an SPS acquisition procedure is initiated before the wireless communication session is initiated. The SPS acquisition procedure is performed until the SPS receiver reaches a tracking state, or until a timeout is reached. Once the SPS receiver is in a tracking state, the wireless communication session may be initiated, during which the SPS receiver is controlled, e.g., to perform signal blanking, measurement exclusion, or disable SPS reception, to mitigate interference with SPS signals.

In a method and system for deriving a seed position of a subscriber station in a wireless communications system in supporting unassisted GPS-type position determination is provided, the subscriber station receives overhead messages from the wireless communications system, and derives the seed position from the parameter values. The subscriber station may use a data structure in its memory and map possible parameter values to corresponding positions that may serve as the seed positions.

In a radio frequency (RF) receiver, a receiver RF chain is tuned to a first (e.g., global positioning system (GPS)) channel to permit receipt of a first (e.g., GPS) signal over the first (e.g., GPS) channel on the receiver RF chain during a first time duration. The receiver RF chain is tuned to a second (e.g., cellular page) channel to permit receipt of a second (e.g., cellular page) signal over the second (e.g., cellular page) channel on the receiver RF chain during a second time duration, following the first time duration. The first (e.g., GPS) signal is processed during the first time duration and the second time duration, without any apparent interruption of the first (e.g., GPS) signal during the second time duration. The processing, for example, provides a bridge signal (e.g., an estimated GPS signal on the receiver RF chain) during the second time duration.
