The invention relates to a therapeutic composition for broad spectrum dermal disease and in particular, to a composition comprising principal lipid components of skin, preferably having about 30 to 90% by weight of a carrier for applying to skin; 0.01 to 5.0% by weight of sphingolipid long-chain base; 0.001 to 1.0% by weight of lysophosphatidic acid; and 1 to 40% by weight of organic or inorganic additives. The composition is useful for the treatment and improvement of atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, ichthyosis, infectious dermatitis, pruritus, erythema derived from pruritus, vulnus, chapping of skin and ulcer, etc.

Therapeutic composition for broad spectrum dermal disease

Disclosed is a method for preparing an aqueous phytosphingosine solution containing as much as 5-10 weight % of phytosphingosine without using any solvents other than water. A high content of phytosphingosine is dissolved in water and lactic acid with the help of a willow bark extract. In addition to being clear, the aqueous phytosphingosine solution is able to recover damaged skin with activity against bacteria and inflammation. Also, when being applied for cosmetics, the aqueous phytosphingosine solution allows them to contain as much as 1-2 weight % of phytosphingosine by virtue of its high content of phytosphingosine. Further, the phytosphingosine solution is greatly improved in compatibility with cosmetic components so that it can be readily applied for aqueous cosmetics such as skin lotions, essence lotions, aqueous pack products, body essence compositions, etc., for which phytosphingosine has not yet been applied, thus far. Thus, the phytosphingosine solution of the present invention gives a great contribution to the functional improvement of aqueous cosmetics.

Method for preparing aqueous phytosphingosine solution

Disclosed are compositions for skin care and their medicinal uses. The compositions are identical in lipid constituents and structural properties to that of human stratum corneum. They comprise the major constituents for the lipid lamellar of the stratum corneum, including ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids, the major constituents for epidermal cell membranes, including phospholipids, and physiologically active substances, including phytosphingosine and its derivatives. Without causing side effects, the cream composition for skin care is of much better skin penetration and water-retention capacity than are conventional compositions comprised of ceramide and other components in forms different from those of human skin. In addition to providing inhibitory activity against skin microorganisms, the cream composition brings about an improvement in the wrinkle condition of the skin, so that it can be applied to cosmetics. Also, it can be used as a medicinal material for the therapeutic treatment of inflammation, such as thermic erythema caused by IR and/or UV light.
