A cutting insert and a cutting tool assembly for cutting a workpiece. The cutting tool assembly includes a cutting insert having an upper surface that has a quadrilateral shape so as to include first to fourth insert corner portions, and a shim configured to support the insert. The insert includes an upper surface and a lower surface on which first to sixth inclined mounting portions are respectively formed. The shim simultaneously supports the first to third inclined mounting portions, or simultaneously supports the fourth to sixth inclined mounting portions.

Insert and cutting tool assembly comprising same

Embodiments of a cutting insert are provided. The cutting insert includes an upper surface, a lower surface, a plurality of side surfaces extending between the upper surface and the lower surface, an insert hole extending through the upper surface and the lower surface, and a corner portion provided with a cutting edge. At least one of the upper surface and the lower surface has a plurality of recesses extending between the insert hole and the corner portion. The plurality of recesses includes a first recess into which one portion of the mounting portion is inserted when the cutting insert is supported by the mounting portion, and a second recess into which another portion of the mounting portion is inserted when the cutting insert is supported by the mounting portion. The second recess has a side wall spaced apart from another portion of the mounting portion.

Cutting insert and cutting tool assembly including same

A rotary cutting tool for slotting and a cutting insert replaceably mounted to such a rotary cutting tool. The cutting insert is mounted to an insert pocket of a tool body of the rotary cutting tool and is pressed by an elastic pressure portion provided in the tool body. The cutting insert has an upper surface, a lower surface and four peripheral side surfaces. The top and lower surfaces have an inclined surface pressed by the elastic pressure portion. When the cutting insert is mounted to the insert pocket, the inclined surface of the upper surface is pressed by the elastic pressure portion. The inclined surface is inclined with respect to a cross section of the cutting insert such that the lower surface and two peripheral side surfaces of the cutting insert are contacted with the insert pocket by pressure of the elastic pressure portion.

Rotary cutting tool and cutting insert therefor

A cutting tool assembly has a cutter body, a clamp pin, a cutting insert and a set screw. The clamp pin is inserted to the cutter body to secure the cutting insert to an insert pocket. The set screw is fastened to a threaded hole of the cutter body to press the clamp pin toward the insert pocket. A side surface of the cutting insert contacts a side wall of the insert pocket at a first contact portion. A head of the clamp pin contact an inner peripheral surface of a bore of the cutting insert at a second contact portion. The first and second contact portions are located such that a moment acts on the cutting insert toward the base wall of the insert pocket around the first contact portion.

Cutting tool assembly

A cutting insert mountable in an insert pocket of a milling cutter and capable of effectively absorbing a radially outward force during high speed machining and high ramp machining. The cutting insert has a top surface, a bottom surface, peripheral surfaces extending between the top and bottom surfaces, a mounting hole extending through the top surface and the bottom surface, a protrusion portion protruding from the bottom surface, and a pair of lower inclined abutment surfaces formed at opposite edges of the bottom surface. The lower inclined abutment surfaces are inclined in opposite directions toward a pair of opposing peripheral surfaces, outwardly and upwardly relative to the protrusion portion. The protrusion portion extends across the mounting hole and has a lateral surface facing radially outwardly of the milling cutter. The lateral surface selectively contacts or does not contact the insert pocket depending on a revolution speed of the milling cutter.

A cutting tool includes one or more cutting portions. Each of the cutting portions has a cutting insert and an insert pocket for mounting the cutting insert. The insert pocket has a top surface with one or more projecting portions with a shape of serration, and a bottom supporting surface. The cutting insert has a top surface mating with said projecting portions of the insert pocket, and a bottom surface mating with the bottom supporting surface of the insert pocket. The top surface of the cutting insert has one or more outwardly sloped surfaces mating with the projecting portions of the insert pocket, and one or more inwardly sloped surfaces positioned off the projecting portions.

Cutting insert

A hexahedral insert has top and bottom faces and two pairs of opposing side faces with main cutting edges formed on the borders of the top and bottom faces to the side faces and a screw hole passing through each central portion of the top and bottom faces. The top and bottom faces are flat planes parallel to each other; each of the side faces consecutively from top to bottom includes an upper land portion, an upper inwardly-inclined portion, a flat support surface, a lower inwardly-inclined portion, and a lower land portion. Each of two adjacent side faces has a corner surface therebetween which forms corner edges on the borders to the top and bottom faces. The cutting insert enhances the cutting power by reducing cutting resistance and prevents scratches on a machined surface.

Tangential cutting insert

A cutting tool includes a cutting insert and a tool holder. The tool holder includes: a base for supporting a bottom surface of the cutting insert; a clamping arm for pressing a top surface of the cutting insert; an insert receiving space formed between the bottom surface of the clamping arm and the base; and a supporting surface which defines an end of the insert receiving space and supports an end of the cutting insert. The cutting insert includes: a first pressing region on the front portion of the top surface which is oriented in a vertically upward direction; and a second pressing region on the rear portion of the top surface which is oriented at an angle in the front direction.

Cutting tool

The present invention is directed to a cutting tool, comprising: at least one cutting insert; a tool body including a pocket portion to which the cutting insert is mounted; a means for fixing the cutting insert to the pocket portion of the tool body; and a screw for finely adjusting the position of the cutting insert fixed to the pocket portion of the tool body. The screw has a head portion, a threaded portion and a portion for connecting the head portion to the threaded portion. The pocket portion has a bottom surface with a screw hole formed thereon into which the threaded portion is fastened. It also has a side wall comprising a surface for closely contacting the head portion of the screw. The head portion of the screw closely contacts and resiliently pressurizes the close contact surface of the pocket portion when the threaded portion is fastened into the screw hole.

A cutting insert having a plurality of corner cutting edges has an upper face, a lower face, two longitudinal side faces and two transversal side faces connecting the upper face and the lower face. A through hole passes through central parts of the upper face and the lower face. The longitudinal side faces are opposite to each other and normal to both upper and lower faces, as are the transversal side faces. The upper face and the lower face are each provided with two chip discharge grooves, each chip discharge groove extending along a corresponding one of the transversal side faces, the two chip discharge grooves being inclined oppositely in the transverse direction so that the upper face and the lower face are each provided with two corner cutting edges at diagonally opposite corners. The longitudinal length of the insert is longer than the transversal length of the insert. The cutting insert can be mounted stably to a small-diametered cutter with a sufficient mounting surface.

Exchangeable cutting insert

A cutting insert has top and bottom surfaces in the thicknesswise direction, and front and rear surfaces in the widthwise direction. First and second cutting edges are formed in the lengthwise direction at intersection portions where the top surface intersects with the front and rear surfaces. Third and fourth cutting edges are formed in the lengthwise direction at intersection portions where the bottom surface intersects with the front and rear surfaces. The first to fourth cutting edges are divided by a plurality of recesses. The plurality of recesses are symmetric with respect to the lengthwise centerline (A), which runs between the first and third cutting edges on the front surface and are asymmetric with respect to the thicknesswise centerline (B) perpendicular to the lengthwise centerline (A).

Cutting insert having cutting edges divided by recesses and a milling cutter provided with the same

A cutting insert has a top surface and a bottom surface having a parallelogram shape, and four side surfaces connecting the top and bottom surfaces. One or more primary cutting edges are formed at intersections between the top and bottom surfaces and two opposing side surfaces. Secondary cutting edges are formed at intersections between the top and bottom surfaces and two other opposing side surfaces. The primary cutting edge forms a first angle with respect to a median plane parallel to the top and bottom surfaces. The secondary cutting edge forms a second angle with respect to the median plane. The top and bottom surfaces have a mounting surface and a rack surface, wherein the rack surface extends inwardly from the cutting edge toward the median plane. The top and bottom surfaces of the cutting insert have mirror symmetry with respect to the median plane.
