A method includes receiving a request from a host device to authenticate a device. The method further includes transmitting authenticating data to the host device. Responsive to successful authentication of the device, configuration interface and communication interface of the device is exposed to the host device. The method further includes processing commands from the host device after the device is successfully authenticated. Responsive to the processed commands, payload data is sent or received to or from the host device according to the communication interface.

Systems and methods are disclosed that capture video in mobile applications and automatically archive the captured videos using short-range communications with a network storage device. In various embodiments, the archival is triggered by proximity to the wireless network device. In various embodiments, other triggers, such as those provided by location-based services are used to initiate archival via a wireless protocol.

A storage system provides a content manager configured to initiate transfer of media content from a first device to a second device. Responsive to a transfer request from the second device and during the transfer, gateway logic coupled to the content manager disables a gateway executing on the first device, responsive to the transfer request from the second device. Power logic coupled to the content manager enters a low power mode in the first device, responsive to completion of the transfer of the media content from the first device to the second device.

Managing gateway access

An application running on a portable device detects a firmware update for a peripheral device. The firmware update is available via an external network. The firmware update is downloaded to the portable device from the external network via the application, and the firmware update is uploaded to the peripheral device from the application via a proximity network. The firmware update is uploaded via an application program interface of the peripheral device that facilitates applying the update in response to the uploading of the firmware.

A RAID system is provided which can be implemented as a hardware RAID system while avoiding certain shortcomings of previous RAID systems. The RAID system makes it possible to avoid or reduce the number of buffers or processors and can take advantage of drive logic to achieve RAID functions or enhancements. RAID functionality can be provided in a manner to accommodate one or more ATA drive interfaces. To avoid drive replacement problems, host requests for drive serial numbers are responded to with a mirror serial number. In one embodiment, the read address is used to select which drive will perform a read operation.
