A cathode ray tube includes a panel having a substantially flat outer surface and an inner curved surface with a phosphor screen. The panel has a substantially rectangular effective screen portion with two long sides parallel to each other, two short sides parallel to each other and four rounded edges interconnecting each long side and the neighboring short side. The effective screen portion is structure such that a first line V1 interconnecting centers of the long sides, a second line H1 interconnecting centers of the short sides and a third line D1 interconnecting centers of the rounded edges opposite to each other meet at a point. The effective screen portion has a first thickness Tv at the centers of the long sides, a second thickness Th at the centers of the short sides, a third thickness Td at the centers of the edges and a fourth thickness Tc at the meeting point of the all three lines V1, H1 and D1. A shadow mask is disposed within the panel so that the shadow mask faces the inner curved surface of the panel. The shadow mask has a curvature corresponding to the inner curved surface of the panel. The ratio of the second thickness Th to the third thickness Td while subtracting the fourth thickness Tc from each thickness satisfies the following condition: 0.75(Th&#x2212;Tc)/Td&#x2212;Tc)&#x2266;0.85, and the ratio of the first thickness Tv to the thickness Td while subtracting the fourth thickness Tc from each thickness satisfies the following condition: 0.75&#x2266;(Tv&#x2212;Tc)/(Td&#x2212;Tc)&#x2266;0.85.

Cathode ray tube

A cathode ray tube includes a color selection apparatus mounted between a phosphor screen and an electron gun, and support members for supporting the color selection apparatus. Each of the support members is formed by a spring including a fixed section secured to the color selection apparatus, a locking section connected to the cathode ray tube, and a center section formed between these elements. The fixed section and the center section are separated by and bent at a first folding trace, and the center section and the locking section are separated by and bent at a second folding trace. Also, if a direction along a width of the springs is X, the first folding trace has an angle &#x3b8;with a straight line drawn on the fixed section along direction X, and the second folding trace has an angle &#x3b8;with a straight line drawn on the center section along direction X, the angle &#x3b8;is greater than the angle &#x3b8;.

Cathode ray tube having support member for color selection apparatus

A cathode ray tube includes a panel having a front screen portion on which a phosphor screen is formed and a panel flange integrally formed on an edge of the front screen portion, a funnel connected to the panel flange, a deflection yoke disposed around the funnel, a neck connected to the funnel, an electron gun disposed in the neck, a color selection apparatus for selecting electron beams emitted from the electron gun and allowing the selected electron beams to land on corresponding phosphors, and an inner shield for shielding geomagnetism, the inner shield mounted on the color selection apparatus. The color selection apparatus includes a mask having a plurality of electron beam-passing apertures, the mask being rectangular and having a longitudinal axis and a lateral axis, a frame for supporting the mask in a tensioned state, and a pair of side shield members mounted on lateral sides of the frame to shield the geomagnetism.

A tension mask frame assembly for a color cathode ray tube, includes: a tension mask having a plurality of strips on which slots are formed, the slots being separated by a predetermined distance from each other on a thin plate; real bridges for partitioning slots at a predetermined pitch interval by connecting adjacent ones of a plurality of strips to each other; and a frame which supports the corresponding edges of the tension mask; whereby the vertical pitch of the real bridges becomes smaller, such as in a stepwise relation, in a direction from the center portion of the tension mask to the peripheral portion of the tension mask.

A tension mask frame assembly for a color cathode ray tube, including: a tension mask having a plurality of strips on which slots are formed being separated a predetermined distance from each other on a thin plate, real bridges for partitioning slots at a predetermined pitch interval by connecting adjacent ones of a plurality of strips to each other; and a frame which supports the corresponding edges of the tension mask, whereby a tensile force is applied to the tension mask, and the vertical pitch of the real bridges becomes smaller in a direction from the center portion of the tension mask to the peripheral portion of the tension mask.

A tension mask frame assembly for a color picture tube includes a tension mask where a plurality of strips formed on a thin plate to be separated a predetermined distance forming slots, a plurality of tie bars for connecting the strips and sectioning the slots at a predetermined pitch, and a plurality of dummy bridges extending from at least one strip toward a facing strip in the slots sectioned by the tie bars, and a frame supporting the edge of the tension mask so that a not less than can be applied to the tension mask. In the tension mask frame assembly, the area of the dummy bridge of the tension mask is smaller from the central portion of the tension mask to the peripheral portion thereof.

A tension mask and a tension mask and frame assembly for a color cathode ray tube (CRT). The tension mask and frame assembly includes: a tension mask including an aperture portion having a series of strips disposed at predetermined intervals to define slits, and tie bars interconnecting adjacent strips, and a non-aperture portion having side members disposed parallel to the strips on both sides of the aperture portion, wherein strips near the side of the aperture portions and the side members have a predetermined partial pin cushion curvature, and a frame including a pair of support members disposed parallel to each other, for supporting the tension mask under tension acting in the vertical direction of the strips, such that a tension acts on the horizontal direction of the tension mask through the tie bars, due to the curvature of the tension mask, and a pair of elastic members fixed to both ends of the support members for supporting the support members.
