This invention relates to antimicrobial composites, films, labelstocks and labels. The antimicrobial composites comprise a mixture of (A) a terpolymer prepared from a mixture comprising (i) an olefin, (ii) at least one copolymerizable comonomer comprising ethylenically unsaturated organic acids or esters, vinyl esters of saturated carboxylic acids and mixtures of two or more thereof, and (iii) carbon monoxide, and (B) an antimicrobial composition which comprises at least one metal chlorite and at least one hydrophilic material capable of reacting with the metal chlorite when exposed to water. The composites which are described herein are useful in preparing films, labelstocks and labels which exhibit the desirable antimicrobial properties by providing a controlled release of chlorine dioxide gas over an extended period of time.

This invention relates to antimicrobial composites, films, labelstocks and labels. The antimicrobial composites comprise (A) a polymer mixture comprising a mixture of at least one styrene polymer and at least one urethane polymer, and (B) an antimicrobial composition which comprises at least one metal chlorite and at least one hydrophilic material capable of reacting with the metal chlorite when exposed to water. The composites which are described herein are useful in preparing films, labelstocks and labels which exhibit the desirable antimicrobial properties by providing a controlled release of chlorine dioxide gas over an extended period of time.

The present invention relates to the present invention relates to a time indicating label comprising (a) a label substrate having a first and second surface, (b) an acid-base indicator composition, and (c) an activator composition, wherein one of (b) or (c) are on the first surface of the substrate and wherein (b) and (c) when brought in contact remain adhered. This invention relates to an aqueous film-forming mixture which does not contain a vinyl halide and which can be utilized to prepare conformable films which are useful in various applications such as adhesive tapes, labels and decorative sheets. The aqueous film-forming mixtures generally comprise, based on the weight of the solids in the aqueous mixture, (A) from about 50% to about 80% by weight of an acrylic-urethane copolymer which forms a film having an elongation at break of at least about 300%, and (B) from about 5% to about 25% by weight of an acrylic polymer or copolymer having a Tof less than about 55&#xb0; C., wherein the acrylic polymer or copolymer (B) is different from the acrylic-urethane copolymer (A). The aqueous mixtures also may contain up to about 40% by weight of a pigment. These aqueous film-forming mixtures are useful in preparing conformable films and other articles such as adhesive articles which comprise an adhesive layer and a layer of the conformable film of this invention which is adhered to the adhesive layer. The conformable films of the present invention may be printed with various graphics, and the films are die-cuttable.

Aqueous film-forming mixtures and conformable films and articles made therefrom

Multilayer PSA label constructions that achieve a good balance of properties, namely, adhesive performance, convertibility, and laser printer performance, and, optionally, good wet-out on plastic substrates and low haze. The multilayer PSA construction comprising a facestock, a multilayer adhesive coating, and a release liner. The adhesive coating is made of a face side adhesive (FSA) layer comprising a first emulsion acrylic PSA, which is in contact with the inner surface of the facestock, and a liner side adhesive (LSA) layer, comprising a second emulsion acrylic PSA different from the first acrylic PSA, which is in contact with the FSA. The adhesive coating has a coat weight of less than about 26 g/m and a flow of less than about 50 &mgr;m at room temperature. The construction exhibits a loop tack value of at least about 3.5 N/25 mm at 5&deg; C. on a polyethylene substrate. It has been discovered that multilayer PSA label constructions exhibiting these properties also exhibit good convertibility and laser printer performance.

Multilayer pressure-sensitive adhesive label constructions

A multilayer PSA construction includes a facestock, a hazy, first adhesive layer adjacent the facestock, and a PSA layer adjacent the first adhesive layer, and is protected until use by a release liner. The first adhesive layer includes an immiscible blend of a first elastomer having a first glass transition temperature and forming a continuous phase, and a second elastomer forming a discontinuous phase. The second elastomer has a glass transition temperature greater than the first glass transition temperature. The first adhesive layer also contains a tackifying component, which is preferentially soluble in the discontinuous phase. The PSA layer has a composition different from the first adhesive layer and is formed of at least one tackified elastomer that provides a measurable third maximum glass transition temperature, which is less than the second glass transition temperature. The multilayer PSA construction exhibits reduced migration of tackifiers and plasticizers over time.

Wrinkle-resistant adhesive construction

The present invention relates to improved performance multilayer PSA constructions useful for making labels. In one embodiment the invention relates to a multilayer PSA construction comprising: (A) a multilayer adhesive laminate having an overall thickness of less than about 100 microns and comprising (I) at least one composite PSA layer comprising a continuous phase of a pressure sensitive adhesive and a discontinuous phase of non-adhesive filler particles, filler particle aggregate, or a mixture thereof, and (ii) at least one second PSA layer which is in contact with the composite layer and contains no filler or less filler than the composite layer, and (B) a facestock which is in contact with and adhered to either the composite layer or the second PSA layer of the multilayer adhesive laminate.
