Presented are methods and systems for a software agent in an AP to recognize a service type used by a wireless communication station and optimize the wireless communication network's operation. Methods comprise acquiring communication status from a communication apparatus that may comprise a wireless communication station, a wireless LAN, wired LAN, and/or a broadband connection; learning a classifier that maps the acquired communication status to service types by analyzing historical communication status; and recognizing the service type of a wireless communication station by inputting a current communication status to the classifier. The recognized service type may be used to diagnose the operation of communication networks and stations coupled to the AP and to optimize the operation of such communication networks and stations.

Service type identification systems and methods for optimizing local area networks

A method of determining a problem with data packet transmission speed over a first communication medium coupled between a plurality of content servers and an ISP communication device. The method comprises repeatedly measuring the data packet transmission speed over the first communication medium coupled between each of the plurality of content servers and the ISP communication device, and determining there is a problem with the data packet transmission speed over the first communication medium coupled between one of the plurality of content servers and the ISP communication device when the repeatedly measured data packet transmission speeds over the first communication medium coupled between the one of the plurality of content servers and the ISP communication device is substantially different from the repeatedly measured data packet transmission speeds over the first communication medium coupled between other of the plurality of content servers and the ISP communication device.

Methods and apparatus for detecting internet connection problems

Presented are Ergodic Spectrum Management (ESM) systems and methods that take advantage of the presence of statistical consistencies ('ergodicity') and correlations, such as a wireless network's average dimensional consistencies of probability distributions (in time, space, and frequency) of channel gains, to adaptively learn qualitative and quantitative network/user behavior; estimate or predict network performance; and guide locally implemented radio resource management (RRM) decisions of wireless multi-user transmissions in a manner such as to reduce interference and improve latency; connection stability; efficiency; and overall wireless performance. ESM also enhances end-users' Quality of Experience (QoE) by allowing movement across bands and regions as users/devices roam. A remote-cloud-based resource management implementation of ESM's Learn-ed Resource Managers (LRMs) removes the need for heavy edge-computing close to radio cells.

Ergodic spectrum management systems and methods

Embodiments of the present invention provide systems, devices and methods for improving the performance and range of wireless communication systems. In various embodiments, a wireless and wireline architecture is implemented to allow a channel to more efficiently span physical barriers within the channel. The wireline portion of the channel may leverage pre-existing copper deployed within a building by interfacing copper with north and south transceiver nodes that allow the signal to propagate through a physical structure on the wire itself resulting in significantly less signal degradation compared to the signal having to traverse the physical structure wirelessly.

Server and agent of an internet network may each generate two flows of data that are transmitted/received by the server/agent, respectively. The first flow comprises an unspoofed data flow as may be transmitted over the network based on an HTTP GET command. The second flow may comprise a spoofed data flow. The second flow may emulate, or spoof, a video stream or other data flows that may be altered in the network. Server or agent may compare the first flow relative to the second flow to determine differences in performance data, from which a net neutrality status can be detected. Generally, after a measurement command is invoked, the system starts a downstream measurement. Then after completion of the downstream measurement, the system starts an upstream measurement.

A compound sensor system includes a first sensor, a second sensor, a memory that stores a module, and a processor coupled to the first sensor, the second sensor, and the memory. The first sensor is configured to detect a parameter that indicates a likelihood of having a user enter or leave a target area, and, in response, send a first command signal to the processor. The processor is configured to receive the first command signal from the first sensor and send a second command signal to the second sensor based on receiving the first command signal. The second sensor is configured to operate at a sleep mode and switch to an active mode upon receiving the second command signal, and during the active mode the second sensor is configured to determine if the user enters or leaves the target area.

Various embodiments describe communication systems for implementing high-speed transmission systems using waveguide-mode transmission over wires. In certain examples, a communication system uses wire pairs as 'waveguides' that transmit data at high frequencies and speeds. Methods and systems for twisted pair telephone line diagnostics based on patterns of line data occurring over time. An observed data distribution is classified as periodic or based on modeled distributions previously determined to correspond to a known line activity, fault type, or fault location. A disruption or parameter value pattern is classified through statistical inference of operational and performance data collected from the line. Where the disruption and/or parameter value(s) correlate with a time the customer is at the customer premises, an inference is made that the line fault causing the disruption is more likely at the CPE than at the Central Office. Where the disruption distribution is classified as being a result of human activities initiated on the line, a fault condition associated with the activity is inferred. Where a disruption pattern is correlated with human initiated plain old telephone service (POTS), a micro-filter problem is inferred for the line.
