Solid-state lighting devices including light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and more particularly LED packages are disclosed. Arrangements for LED packages are disclosed that provide improved reliability and improved emission characteristics in a variety of applications, including outdoor LED displays as well as general illumination. LED packages are disclosed with linear arrangements of LED chips and corresponding lenses to provide improved visibility and color mixing at higher viewing angles. LED packages are disclosed that include different types of lenses that are arranged within the same LED package depending on desired emission characteristics. Body structures for LED packages are disclosed that include arrangements for improved adhesion with encapsulant materials and optional potting materials to provide improved moisture barriers.

Arrangements for light emitting diode packages

One embodiment of the surface mount LED package includes a lead frame and a plastic casing at least partially encasing the lead frame. The lead frame includes a plurality of electrically conductive chip carriers. There is an LED disposed on each one of the plurality of electrically conductive chip carriers. A profile height of the surface mount LED package is less than about 1.0 mm.

Miniature surface mount device with large pin pads

A surface mount LED package includes a lead frame carrying a plurality of LEDs and a plastic casing at least partially encasing the lead frame. The lead frame includes an electrically conductive chip carrier and first, second, and third electrically conductive connection parts separate from the electrically conductive chip carrier. Each of the first, second and third electrically conductive connection parts has an upper surface, a lower surface, and a connection pad on the upper surface. The plurality of LEDs are disposed on an upper surface of the electrically conductive chip carrier. Each LED has a first electrical terminal electrically coupled to the electrically conductive chip carrier. Each LED has a second electrical terminal electrically coupled to the connection pad of a corresponding one of the first, second, and third electrically conductive connection parts.

Miniature surface mount device

The disclosure provides an LED package including a first plastic portion having a mounting surface and a lower surface. In some embodiments, the LED package includes a second portion surrounding the first plastic portion and exposing the mounting surface and the lower surface of the first plastic portion. In other embodiments, the first plastic portion includes at least one of a hole or a protrusion and the second portion includes corresponding structure filing the hole or surrounding the protrusion of the first plastic portion. The first plastic portion and the second portion have different optical properties.

Water resistant LED devices and an LED display including same

A plurality of disc-shaped substrates carry light emitters and are axially stacked, spaced apart, in a metal housing to dissipate the heat produced by the light emitters. The housing comprises mutually connected elongate planar ribs that abut the light emitters or substrates for thermally connecting the light emitters to the housing. The ribs have shoulders. The substrates are received between the ribs and abut the shoulders. The shoulders are positioned proximate each light emitter in intimate contact with the substrate for efficient heat dissipation.

Light emitter assembly

A light-emitting assembly comprising a lens, a first optical source, a second optical source and a third optical source, wherein the lens is disposed forward of said first, second and third optical sources; the third optical source is intermediate the first and second optical sources; and the lens and the first, second and third optical sources are arranged so that light emitted from the first and second optical sources merges at the third optical source after undergoing internal reflection at the lens.

Light-emitting devices and lens therefor

A lighting device contains a plurality of light emitting sources mounted on a thermally conductive housing and electrically connected to a circuit board. The housing includes a base portion which is spaced apart from the circuit board, and an intermediate heat dissipation structure which is disposed between the circuit board and the base portion of the housing, for promoting cooling by convection. The plurality of light emitting sources are in thermal communication with the intermediate heat dissipation structure.

Lighting device

A bonding tool and method for bonding a semiconductor chip to a surface is provided wherein the bonding tool includes a bonding tip comprising a ceramic material, preferably titanium carbide. The bonding tip is operative to hold the chip and a bonding energy generator such as an ultrasonic transducer is coupled to the bonding tip for applying bonding energy to the bonding tip and the chip to bond the chip to the surface. The bonding tip may further include martensite such that the titanium carbide is present in a hard phase and the martensite is present in a soft phase as a binder for the same.
