Methods and systems for designing, monitoring, and/or performing acidizing treatments in subterranean formations are provided. A method comprises: determining a wellbore pressure and a fluid flow distribution for an acidizing fluid introduced into an interval of a well bore penetrating a portion of a subterranean formation; determining an optimum interstitial velocity for the acidizing fluid in the subterranean formation and an interstitial velocity of the acidizing fluid at a tip of a wormhole in the subterranean formation at a first flow rate at each of a plurality of depths; and if the interstitial velocity of the acidizing fluid at the tip of the wormhole is less than the optimum interstitial velocity at one or more of the plurality of depths, identifying a second flow rate for introducing the acidizing fluid into the interval of the well bore that is greater than the first flow rate.

Methods and systems for characterizing and/or monitoring wormhole regimes in matrix acidizing

System and methods of controlling diverter placement during stimulation treatments are provided. Data relating to at least one downhole parameter is obtained for a current treatment stage within a subsurface formation. A response of the diverter to be injected during a diversion phase of the current stage on the downhole parameter is estimated, based on the obtained data and a diagnostic data model. Values for diversion control parameters are calculated, based on the estimated response. As the diverter is injected into the formation, an actual response of the diverter is monitored. Upon determining that a difference between the actual and estimated response exceeds an error tolerance threshold, the model is updated. The model is further updated over subsequent iterations of the diversion phase when the actual response is less than the estimated response. Subsequent diversion phases are performed over a remainder of the current stage, based on the updated model.

Real-time monitoring and control of diverter placement for multistage stimulation treatments

A system and method for systemically generating complexity through a formation may include defining a diverter schedule including a set of diverters to be pumped into a wellbore over a duration of time. The system and method may include a first diverter being pumped into the wellbore based on the diverter schedule, the first diverter including matter corresponding to a first mesh value. An onset of pressure response value may be determined using a pressure sensor during or after pumping the first diverter into the wellbore. A next diverter including particles corresponding to a second mesh value may be selected using the onset of pressure response value and the diverter schedule. The next diverter may then pumped into the wellbore.

Fracturing treatments that systematically add complexity in the formation

Methods, systems, and computer program products for generating a schedule for fluid placement. A computer-implemented method may include determining, for each zone of a plurality of zones of a treatment interval to be treated by the fluids placement system, a criterion value based on a heterogeneity parameter of the zone, sorting the zones into an ordered sequence based on the criterion value associated with each zone, and generating a schedule that designates an order of treating the zones in accordance with the order of the sequence.

Scheduling treatment fluid placement and fluid diversion in a subterranean formation

A pumping schedule for stimulating a well can be dynamically optimized. For example, a layer in a well can be determined to have a highest value for a characteristic. The layer can be assigned as a first layer in an ordered list. A pump rate and type of fluid to pump into the wellbore for reducing an amount of blockage to below a threshold value can be determined based on a feature of the first layer. The blockage can reduce a flow of a production fluid from the first layer into the wellbore. Changes to values for the characteristics of layers in the well resulting from pumping the fluid can be determined. Another layer in the well can be determined to have the highest value for the characteristic as a result of pumping the fluid into the wellbore and can be assigned as the first layer in the ordered list.

Dynamically optimizing a pumping schedule for stimulating a well

Methods and systems for designing, monitoring, and/or performing acidizing treatments in subterranean formations are provided. In certain embodiments, the methods comprise: determining a wellbore pressure and a fluid flow distribution for an acidizing fluid introduced into a portion of a subterranean formation; determining a breakthrough pore volume at a plurality of depths in the formation to provide a PVBT curve; determining whether a slope of the PVBT curve at a point corresponding to a first flow rate of the acidizing fluid in the subterranean formation is indicative of a compact dissolution regime, e.g., is less than zero or a minimum point of a range of tolerance thereof; and, if so, identifying a second flow rate for introducing the acidizing fluid into the interval of the well bore that is greater than the first flow rate.

Methods and systems for detection of crossflow and quantification of crossflow effects on fluid distribution during multistage injection treatments of hydrocarbon bearing reservoir formations. A low rate injection stage is applied after a main (high rate) fluid injection stage of a multistage injection treatment process. Wellbore temperature measurements can be utilized along with an inversion process to detect any crossflow and quantify its effects on fluid distribution during the main injection stage. After the effects of any detected crossflow on the fluid distribution are quantified, the effectiveness of the multistage injection treatment can be analyzed and any adjustments or modifications to the treatment can be made accordingly.

Quantification of crossflow effects on fluid distribution during matrix injection treatments

A self-triggering, in-situ crosslinking fluid system is provided for controlling lost circulation for drilling in a carbonate formation. Methods of drilling a well include the steps of: (A) forming a drilling fluid comprising an aqueous phase, wherein the aqueous phase comprises: (i) water; (ii) acid, wherein the acid is at least sufficiently strong and in at least a sufficient concentration such that the aqueous phase has an initial pH of less than about 2; (iii) a viscosity-increasing agent; and (iv) a crosslinker, wherein the crosslinker is selected or controlled to crosslink the viscosity-increasing agent at a pH range anywhere in a range of about 1.5 to about 6.5 and that is at least higher than the initial pH of the aqueous phase; and (B) drilling with the drilling fluid to form a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation.

Self-triggering lost circulation control in carbonate formation

Methods and systems for determining acidizing fluid injection rates for stimulation of a subterranean formation arc provided. In one embodiment, methods comprise: selecting a first injection rate for injecting an acidizing fluid into a subterranean formation; calculating a first objective function based on the first injection rate; selecting a second injection rate for injecting the acidizing fluid into the subterranean formation; calculating a second objective function based on the second injection rate; comparing the second objective function with the first objective function to determine whether the second objective function is indicative of more effective stimulation, less effective stimulation, or the same stimulation as the first objective function; and selecting a design rate for injecting the acidizing fluid into the subterranean formation.

Methods and systems for determining acidizing fluid injection rates

A composition in the form of an emulsion having: (i) a continuous oil phase comprising: (a) an oil; (b) an emulsifier; and (ii) an internal aqueous phase comprising: (a) water; (b) acid such that the aqueous phase has an initial pH of less than about 2; (c) a viscosity-increasing agent; and (d) a crosslinker, wherein the crosslinker is selected or controlled to crosslink the viscosity-increasing agent at a pH range somewhere in a range of about 1.5 to about 6.5 and that is at least higher than the initial pH of the aqueous phase. A method of acidizing a treatment zone of a subterranean formation in a well includes the steps of: (A) forming a treatment fluid comprising such a composition; and (B) introducing the treatment fluid into a well.
