System and method embodiments are disclosed for merging computing hardware datapath to reduce energy consumption and improve throughput of modem signal processing functions on a Modem. Compute-in-memory (CIM) is used for data access and processing in parallel using processing elements integrated within memory chip. The processing throughput may significantly improve since data is accessed directly from the computational memory storage in parallel for processing and the clock speed for data processing may run at a higher spec than conventional approaches. Energy consumption for Modem processing is also reduced.

Advances in wireless technologies have resulted in the ability of a wireless communication system to support wireless communications of different standards, e.g., 5G, LTE, and Wi-Fi. Different Wireless standards have aspects which are very different from each other. Described in the present disclosure are embodiments of architecture with hardware and software split to allow implementation of different wireless standards along a configurable signal process path. The configurable signal process path comprises software configurable operators that may be configured in a desired level of granularity to load desirable software to process signals of various standards on the same hardware. Embodiments of the disclosed architecture with hybrid hardware and software implementation may improve system operation efficiency and lower system complexity to serve communications across multiple wireless standards.

Systems and methods for hybrid hardware and software implementation of multiple wireless standards

An embodiment of the present invention includes a technique to calibrate receiver and transmitter in a communication system. N digitized samples I(n) and Q(n) are stored. The N digitized samples represent in-phase and quadrature (I-Q) components, respectively, of a down-converted signal from a receiver. The I-Q components are generated from a quadrature demodulator or modulator having I-Q imbalance. Phase and gain adjustment constants are computed from the N digitized samples to compensate for the I-Q imbalance using a closed form solution. Another embodiment of the present invention includes a technique to calibrate a transceiver in a communication system without using a calibrated reference receiver. A first test signal at a first frequency is injected to a transmitter having a quadrature modulator with I-Q imbalance. The quadrature modulator has a carrier frequency. The transmitter generates a transmitter signal. The transmitter signal is detected to generate a composite signal having the first test signal and a second test signal at a second frequency twice the first frequency. The composite signal is digitized. I-Q direct current (DC) offset, phase, and gain corrections are computed from the digitized composite signal to correct the I-Q imbalance using a closed form solution.
