A mold, system and method for manufacturing a part includes injection molding a substrate in a single injection mold and optionally trimming the panel substrate. The substrate can have a first configuration or a second, different configuration. Trimming of the substrate can occur when the substrate has the first configuration to define an aperture in the substrate.

Mold, system and method for manufacturing a molded part

A mold for producing a vehicle bumper fascia and methods for releasing the bumper fascia are provided. The mold includes a core mold half having a primary mold core. A first movable mold core is slidingly engaged to the primary mold core. A second movable mold core is slidingly engaged to the first movable mold core. A third movable mold core is slidingly engaged to the second movable mold core. Portions of the primary mold core and the movable mold cores together define cavities for forming the mounting rib, a wing portion, and a wheel well flange of the bumper fascia. Methods of releasing the bumper fascia include the steps of providing the mold, disengaging the movable mold cores from each other and from the primary mold core.

Mold for vehicle bumper fascia and associated molding technique

A mold transfer assembly is described that upon placement or construction along a region of an injection molding press, readily receives and retains mold(s) used in the press, and when not in use can be stored below the floor. The mold transfer assembly includes a mold receiving member that is positionable between an extended or raised state, at which the member is at a position, orientation, and height suitable for receiving a mold or set of molds from the press, and a retracted position at which the member is positioned under the floor. This configuration and positioning ability enables greater amounts of floor space to be used when the mold transfer assembly is not in use. Also described is a molding platen having a selectively positionable mold support ledge that enables molds of different sizes to be used in a single press.
