A cable television (CATV) entry adapter connects to a CATV network and serves as a hub in an In-Home Entertainment (IHE) network. IHE signals may be communicated between passive and active ports of an embodiment of the entry adapter through a pair of directional couplers which allow an IRE-enabled embedded multimedia terminal device (eMTA) at the passive port to communicate with multimedia devices of the IHE network connected to the active ports. An IHE frequency rejection filter is used in some embodiments to confine IHE signal to a single subscriber premise. In some embodiments a bidirectional IHE bandpass filter is used to enable IHE signals to pass between the passive and active ports of the CATV entry adapter.

Entry device for communicating external network signals and in-home network signals

An entry device includes an entry port, a filter connected to the entry port, a plurality of first output ports, and a plurality of second output ports. A first path extends from the entry port, through the filter, to the first output ports. The first path is configured to pass cable television (CATV) signals therethrough and to prevent at least a portion of multimedia over coax alliance (MoCA) signals from passing therethrough. A second path extends from the entry port, through the filter, to the second output ports. The second path is configured to prevent at least a portion of the CATV signals and at least a portion of the MoCA signals from passing therethrough. A third path extends from the first output ports, through the filter, to the second output ports. The third path is configured to pass the MoCA signals therethrough and to prevent at least a portion of the CATV signals from passing therethrough.

MoCA entry device

An entry device for communicating external network signals between an in-home network and an external network, for communicating in-home network signals within the in-home network, and for preventing the in-home network signals from being communicated from the in-home network to the external network, the entry device includes a signal attenuation and communication device comprising one or more directional couplers, the signal attenuation and communication device being configured to permit upstream and downstream external network signals to communicate between an entry port and a first network work, and between the entry port and a second network port, and to block and permit communication of in-home network signals between the first network port, the second network port, and the entry port at least partially depending on a direction in which the in-home network signals are travelling.

An entry device for communicating external network signals between an in-home network and an external network. The entry device includes a signal blocking and communication device in communication with an input port, a first network port, and a second network port. The signal blocking and communication device is configured to transmit the external network signals bidirectionally between the input port and the first network port, block in-home network signals from transmission from the first network port to the input port, while allowing the external network signals to be transmitted to the input port, block the in-home network signals from transmission to the input port, while allowing the external network signals to be transmitted to the input port, and transmit the in-home network signals between the first network port and the second network port.

Entry device for communicating signals between an external network and an in-home network

An entry device includes an entry port configured to receive cable television (CATV) signals from a headend. The entry device also includes a filter connected to the entry port. The entry device also includes a plurality of first output ports and a plurality of second output ports. The entry device also includes a first path connecting the filter to the first output ports. The first path is configured to have the CATV signals and multimedia over coax alliance (MoCA) signals pass bidirectionally therethrough. The entry device also includes a second path connecting the filter to the second output ports. The second path is configured to have the MoCA signals pass bidirectionally therethrough and to block the CATV signals from passing therethrough.

An entry adapter for controlling upstream and downstream communications between a cable television (CATV) network and a client multimedia over coaxial alliance (MoCA) network including port means for allowing downstream and upstream CATV signals to be distributed between a CATV network and a plurality of MoCA client devices of a client MoCA network, two-way, high/low frequency band isolation and limited distribution means for allowing CATV network signals to communicate with the client devices, blocking client network signals from being communicated to the CATV network, splitting a network signal into reduced signal-strength network signal copies communicated to the port means, and isolating network signals into a high and low frequency band ranges so as to allow low frequency band CATV network signals to communicate with the MoCA client devices while blocking high frequency band client MoCA network signals from being communicated to the CATV network.

Passive multi-port entry adapter for preserving downstream CATV signal strength

A entry adapter configured to allow external signals to be received by the entry adapter and including a first splitter electrically connected to a first port and a second port. The entry adapter includes a frequency band rejection device electrically connected to the first splitter, and configured to allow the external signals to proceed therethrough to a plurality of third ports, and to block the client signals from proceeding therethrough to the first port. The entry adapter also includes a second splitter electrically connected to the frequency band rejection device and the plurality of third ports, and configured to distribute the external signals received from the frequency band rejection device to the plurality of third ports. The external signals do not proceed through the second splitter.

Entry adapter for communicating external signals to an internal network and communicating client signals in the client network

A cable television (CATV) entry adapter interfaces to a CATV network and serves as a hub in an in-home network for passively communicating multimedia content or information from the CATV network and between subscriber devices connected to the ports of the CATV entry adapter, using CATV signals in a CATV frequency band and network signals in a different in-home network band.

Passive multi-port entry adapter and method for preserving downstream CATV signal strength within in-home network

An entry adapter allows downstream and upstream external signals to be conducted to a server interface of an internal client-server network and allows downstream and upstream external signals to be conducted to a client interface of the internal client-server network. The adapter also includes frequency band separation and blocking means for separating the client signals from the external signals based on the client signals having a higher frequency than the external signals, allowing the external signals to be conducted to only the server interface, allowing the client signals to be conducted through the second port means and the third port means, blocking the client signals from being conducted to the external network, and allowing the client signals to be conducted between the server interface and the client interface.

Entry adapters for conducting can signals and in-home network signals

An entry adapter is configured to allow downstream and upstream network signals from an external network to communicate with a client device in an internal network. The entry adapter includes a two-way, downstream and upstream network communications and frequency hand, internal network signal blocking device, which includes a signal splitter and a diplexer configured to separate network signals into a high frequency band network signal range and a low frequency band network signal range. The internal network signals are in the high frequency band network signal range, and the downstream and upstream network signals are in the low frequency band network signal range. The signal splitter is configured to allow a first reduced signal-strength network signal copy to be communicated to a primary network port and allow a second reduced signal-strength network signal copy to be communicated to a secondary network port.

Entry adapters for frequency band blocking internal network signals

An adapter includes a passive branch circuit configured to communicate a first cable television (CATV) signal between an input port and a passive port, an active branch circuit configured to receive a second CATV signal from the input port, and a sensor configured to detect a low-power condition in the active branch circuit. The active branch circuit is configured to terminate the second CATV signal in response to the sensor detecting the low-power condition, and the active branch circuit is configured to communicate the second CATV signal from to one or more active ports when the active branch circuit does not terminate the second CATV signal.

Adapter for a cable-television network

The present disclosure is directed to a passive, enhanced MoCA entry device. The entry device includes an entry port, a broadband port, high-band ports, and a filter device. The entry device also includes a broadband path connecting the entry port to the broadband port and a high-band path connecting the entry port to the plurality of high-band ports. The filter device generates a broadband signal and a high-band signal. The filter device provides the broadband signal to broadband port via the broadband path. And, the filter device provides the high-band signal to the high-band ports via the high-band path.
