A packer includes a seal element and a piston. The piston compresses the seal element to form an annular seal in the well. A pressure wave, such as a pressure wave that is caused by a chemical reaction or the detonation of an explosive, is generated in the packer to at least partially assist an operation (the setting of a slip, setting of the seal element, etc.) of the packer. In some implementations, the chemical reaction or explosive detonation occurs in response to a predetermined movement of the piston.

A packer includes first and second external seal elements. The first external seal element is adapted to form an annular seal in the well. The second external seal element is adapted to be moved in response to fluid in the well to produce a force to at least partially assist an operation of the packer.

The present invention provides a packer cup system for use inside a wellbore comprising a packer cup and a backup component coupled thereto. In one configuration, the backup component further comprises an angled support member and a rubber ring disposed between the angled support member and the packer cup. The support member is configured to facilitate uniform expansion of the rubber ring.

Packers and methods of using same are described. The packer includes a packer body, a slip to engage a casing of the well and a sealing element to seal an annulus of the well, a fluid bypass chamber adapted to allow fluid passage through the packer body during run in hole and in release position, and a re-settable mandrel slideably engaged with guide pins attached to the packer body and adapted to selectively open and close circulation paths upon actuation. Zonal isolation tools and methods of using same are described. The zonal isolation tools include a wellbore sealing member expandable by fluid pressure to contact a wellbore over an initial contact area, an inflation valve open during expansion of the sealing member to the initial contact area and closed upon the fluid pressure reaching a predetermined setting, a vent between the sealing member and a wellbore annulus adapted to open after the inflation valve is closed, and a compressive load imparted to the sealing member via a linear piston to achieve a sealing point at the leading edge of the sealing member.
