A dynamic medical object information base (DMOIB) is used with a communication protocol. A medical object information base (MOIB) may generally define rules of creation and modification of data defined for use in medical products. A dynamic version of the MOIB adapts to changing data classifications. DMOIB is preferably compatible with non-dynamic MOIB systems. DMOIB preferably reduces code space and simplifies management of software projects. DMOIB may allow for an entirely dynamic system using a discovery/negotiation process for determining full features of a device. DMOIB may also allow for generation of a dynamic interface to handle data from devices.

Dynamic medical object information base

A communications protocol interface may be configured as being divisible into a core portion and an extensible portion. The extensible portion of the communications protocol interface may be further configured so that each network element can communicate a unique and optimally small subset of actual interoperable data that corresponds to at least a portion of a larger defined data set. A software generator program may be configured to generate a set of extensible source code that operates upon the subset of actual data and that directs the execution of the extensible portion of the communications protocol interface for a particular network element.

Communication of information between a plurality of network elements

A transformer system receives medical status data generated by a monitoring device. The medical status data represents one or more physiological characteristics of a patient. In response to receiving the medical status data, the transformer system applies a transformation to the medical status data. A script file results from the transformation of the medical status data. The transformation is specified by an Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation (XSLT) document. The transformer system then executes the script file. When the transformer system executes the script file, the transformer system can perform various actions. For example, the transformer system can generate result data and provide the result data to one or more other systems.

Methods and systems are provided for generating source code from XML formatted device data sheets. Information is accepted from a user regarding whether data definitions, string tables and/or link tables are needed in a software project. Files are created corresponding to the data definitions, string tables and/or link tables. The files are then collected and compiled into resultant source code. An application generator performs the compilation of the input files into source code. The resultant source code may be incorporated into a software development project and may be updated when needed.

Methods and systems are provided for communicating between network devices. A data dictionary may be derived from a device data sheet. The data dictionary may include one or more data definitions specific to the network device and a global unique identifier for the network device. The data dictionary and data are received from the network device. Data definitions from the data dictionary are used to extract and process information from the data. The data dictionary may include a hierarchal classification scheme for data including a first level, a second level and a third level, wherein the first level defines a type of data, wherein the second level defines a type of action, and wherein the third level defines an object of the action.
