Adding interactive objects to content having a timeline at user-identified positions in the timeline. During subsequent rendering of the content, the interactive objects are presented to a user at the identified positions. The interactive objects represent an opportunity for the user to render additional content or perform a transaction. In an embodiment, compensation is generated as a result of performance of the transaction.

Annotating content with interactive objects for transactions

Identification and Surfacing of related pieces of content, such as user-provided content, enables users of a merchant website to more easily find related items. A server associated with the website may receive, from a user, an image that illustrates items offered for sale on the site. The site may then enable this and other users to annotate the image by, for example, associating the illustrated items with hyperlinks to respective item detail pages. When a user views this page, the site may surface the most related other user-uploaded images that also illustrate items. To determine the most related images, the website may analyze, for each of the other images, the similarity between the items illustrated in the image and the items illustrated in the currently-displayed image. The website may also analyze the tags applied to the items and the images themselves, as well as multiple other types of criteria.

Surfacing related user-provided content

Customer-annotated catalog pages enable a user of a merchant website to annotate an image that illustrates one or more items found within an electronic catalog. This annotation may include associating an illustrated item with a hyperlink to a page that is associated with the illustrated item. This annotation may also include commenting on the illustrated item or describing the image as a whole. In some instances, the user may herself upload the image to the merchant web site to enable this annotation. Additionally, other users of the merchant website may comment on the image, the illustrated items, or may associate hyperlinks to associated pages for one or more of the illustrated items. By providing such customer-annotated catalog pages, users of the merchant website are able to view a group of potentially-related items and are able to easily navigate to these items' associated pages within the electronic catalog or otherwise.
